Welcome to Back-to-School Night! Miss Sorensen’s 3rd Grade Class

About Me Graduated from UVA in 2012 with a BA in History and a Masters in Elementary Education. Lived in Blacksburg Virginia and taught 3rd grade at Eastern Montgomery. Taught at NLE 4th grade and 3rd grade the last two years

Attendance Agendas School begins promptly at 7:50 am Please let me know in advance if your child will be absent for an extended period of time Make-up work will be provided after the student returns to school Adequate time will be given to complete make-up assignments Agendas Assignments written daily Homework will also be posted on the website Reading and Math Homework Daily Taken home every evening Check and sign nightly  

Classroom Management   Positive Reinforcement– rewarding the ‘good stuff.’ Earn Dojo Points for individual behavior Earn Fuzzies for whole class behavior Setting expectations clearly. Communication with parents is key!

Phoenix For the 2017 school year, all teachers will continue to use Phoenix Grade Book to enter student grades. Parents and students will also still have access to a new and improved portals called ParentVUE and StudentVUE. Parents and students will have near real-time access to information on assignments and grades, attendance, class schedules, graduation status and more. ParentVUE offers a single sign-on to view school information for all siblings, regardless of the grade level or school of attendance. 

Grading Grading will be 1, 2, 3, 4 (with pluses) Percentages will not be given on tests, instead it will be on the 4 point scale and they will also not have a letter grade assigned. Report cards will still have a letter assigned. Differentiates master of skill vs. “going beyond” (application) Grades will be updated in a timely manner in Phoenix Papers will be sent home on Thursdays
