Translation from TL to English

Translation from TL to English Common idiom is key…….. J’ai onze ans = I have 11 years Comment t’appelles-tu? = How do yourself call you? Je suis de taille moyenne = I am of size medium Il porte un t-shirt bleu = He wears a t-shirt blue Il adore aller au centre de sport = he loves to go to the centre of sport Le sac de ma mère = the bag of my mum

Translation from TL to English Teach the literal and the idiomatic meaning from the start, so that students realise how language is not about word by word translation. Create ‘naughty’ sentences which don’t follow the rules so you can address misconceptions e.g. I always go to town at the weekend…… Je toujours aller en ville à le weekend…… Deconstruct texts (readings and listenings) whenever possible.
