Title I Annual Parent Meeting Pinellas Park Middle School September 7, 2016 Principal: Dave Rosenberger Welcome students and parents to our Title 1 Annual Meeting. Being that we are a Title 1 school, we are required to share specific information with you every year. After this BRIEF presentation, if you have any additional questions regarding Title 1, please stop by the Title 1 table or visit the Title 1 parent station in the front office.

What is Title I & How does it work? Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools. Federal Government» State» District» School The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child. Identify students Set goals for improvement Measure progress Provide support Involve parents What is Title 1 & How does it work? Each state receives money from the federal government and then each state sends money to each district. Districts identify eligible schools based on the number of low income students. Title 1 funds are used by schools and districts for a variety of programs and activities designed to increase children’s academic achievement. Schools work to identify students most in need of educational help. The schools set goals for improvement, measures student progress, develops programs that add to regular classroom instruction, and involves parents in all aspects of the program. Title 1 seeks to provide supplemental support to schools and students that may not be meeting the standards the state has set.

Title I Programs Provide Supplemental Support Money for Technology Enrichment Opportunities Extended Learning Parental Involvement Activities A variety of supplemental teaching materials and/or equipment Title I funds are used to supplement the program at the school by providing funds that help us purchase technology, provide enrichment and extended learning opportunities like Promise Time, to have parent and student activities, t o provide professional development for our teachers, to hire more teachers, and to provide a variety of supplemental materials.

Title I Funds Pinellas Park Middle School is provided $$$$$ to pay for services and programs for our students Pinellas Park Middle School has been given additional funds to pay for services and programs. 1% of these funds are used to provide Parent Involvement activities. Parental input on how the school spends the money is obtained through surveys, parent / school meetings, and school activities. Did you know that All Title I schools must maintain documentation that demonstrates parent input into their budgets and plans? So- Your input is valued!

You are a Title I parent!!! You have rights!!! Parent’s Right to Know You are a Title I parent!!! You have rights!!! You have a right to know that your child is in a Title I School-wide program. This means that our Title I money can be used to upgrade the educational program in ways that may impact every student in the school. This also means that every parent / guardian of a student in our school is a title I Parent! There are Parents’ Rights under No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

Parent’s Right to Know BE INVOLED ! You Can: Request Qualifications Be Informed Request Meetings Participate in Decision Making Provide Input on School-wide Plans YOU CAN: Request the qualifications of your child’s teacher Be notified if your child is taught for more than 4 consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified Request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make suggestions Participate in decisions relating to the education of your child Submit a written comment on the school-wide plan when the school makes the plan available to the district

School Public Accountability Report Card School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) provides parents and the community with important information about each public school Demographic data School safety and climate information Academic data Graduation rates Class sizes Teacher and staff information Curriculum and instruction descriptions Postsecondary preparation information Available at the school office or online at http://doeweb-prd.doe.state.fl.us/eds/nclbspar/index.cfm We are required to make available The School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) which provides you and the community with important information about each public school. You can find things like demographic data, safety & climate information, academic data, graduation rates, teacher and staff information as well as other important information. A COPY OF OUR REPORT IS AVAILABLE AT OUR TITLE 1 PARENT STATION , LOCATED IN THE FRONT OFFICE,; ONLINE ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE AND on THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION WEBSITE

Educational Standards Florida’s academic content standards establish high expectations for all students. Common Core Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas. You may read more information by visiting, www.fldoe.org . Celebrate Learning by Measuring Student Success We CELEBRATE LEARNING by measuring student success and progress with informal and formal assessments. Your child is probably already familiar with FAIR and other progress monitoring assessments that are administered throughout the year, however the End of Course assessment may be new to your child this year. Each teacher will be sharing information with you and your child as we move through the year about the requirements for the End of Course assessment and how to prepare. There is a lot going on…help your child be ready!

Working together! Title I law requires that all Title I schools and families work together. How we work together is listed in our: School Level Parental Involvement Plan (PIP) Parent-School Compact School Improvement Plan (SIP) Parents can also read the District’s Parent Involvement Plan (LEA PIP) at www.pcsb.org under Title I, a copy is at our Title I Parent Station We need you to get involved! Section 1118 of No Child Left Behind requires that the school and families work together. We need your input for the development, review and revisions of the Parent Involvement Plan, School Improvement Plan, and the Parent-School Compact.

Parent-School Compact Our Compact includes: Family Promises / Responsibilities School Promises / Responsibilities Student Promises / Responsibilities The Title I School-Parent Compact – outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. It Must be reviewed and revised annually with parents. Many of you have already reviewed and signed this years COMPACT. If you have not yet signed the Compact, please see the Title 1 table tonight to get one! You also, can provide input for changes on a blank COMPACT form or on our Parent Input form during the year. We want and need your input!

Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) Requirements Involve Parents Hold an annual meeting Provide timely information Help you understand academic content and assessments Provide materials and training to help you work with your child The Title 1 Parent Involvement Plan Policy requires that we involve you in the development, implementation, and review of our Parent Involvement Plan. We are required to inform you about Title I requirements annually. We must also provide parents with timely information about Title I programs and assist you in understanding academic content and assessments as well as provide materials and training to help you work with your child to improve their achievement.

GET INVOLVED WE NEED YOU! Attend Activities Join PTA/ SAC Provide Feedback COMPACTS / Parent Involvement Plan WE NEED YOU! You can get involved by attending the activities we have planned throughout the year, joining PTA and / or SAC, and by providing feedback on our COMPACTs and the Parent Involvement Plan every year to help us make it better! Our Parent Involvement Plan has been approved and you will receive a summary of the plan. Please feel free to give us feedback! We will offer flexible meeting times and dates for the activities we have planned. We will inform you of our activities in numerous ways, such as individual invitations, newsletters, calls home, and flyers. Please plan to attend as we look forward to working with you!

There are many ways you can support our school and your child’s education! By taking an active role in school activities, you’ll show your child *how important they are to you *how important education is to you *that you and the school are a team

Where can you find information about Title I ??????? Our Title I information is found at our Title I station, located in the front office. You will find things like the School’s Parent Involvement Plan, The Parents Right to Know memo, and brochures on how to use PORTAL. If you would like a copy of any information we will be happy to make a copy for you.

Title I Family Library We’re open! All Title I families may visit the Title I Library located at 2499 25th Street South St. Petersburg, FL A great place to check out books and games… you don’t need a library card and no there are no late fees. Each time your child visits the library they will receive a FREE BOOK! We’re open! Monday & Thursday 8:30- 6:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30-3:30 For more information you may contact 727-893-2988 Just in case you didn’t already know…..The Title I Family Library is a great place to check out books and games. It’s available to you for free! You should check it out!

Classroom Visits Follow the Schedule Meet the Teacher Ask Questions about Classwork / Homework Expectations Schedule a Conference At the conclusion of this Title I meeting you will have a chance to follow your child’s schedule and meet their teachers. Please make sure you follow your child’s schedule. This is a great time to meet the teacher and to find out about classroom procedures and classwork and homework expectations. If you would like individual information or would like to share personal information about your child, please contact the grade level Guidance Counselor to schedule a parent /teacher conference.
