2 What is Title I? Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools. The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child. Its purpose is to address the academic needs of students and to assist them in meeting their state’s academic standards. The program serves millions of children in public elementary and secondary schools each year including eligible students in private schools.

3 Title I Funding The federal government provides funding to states each year for the Title I program. The Florida Department of Education sends the money to our district, Pinellas County Schools. The school district identifies eligible schools and distributes the Title I funds to the school. Skycrest Elementary implements a school-wide program, all students benefit from the supplemental services provided by Title I. The Florida Department of Education receives funds from the federal government. Districts receive Title I funds from Department of Education, and the school district distributes these funds to schools based on the percentage of children eligible for free/reduced price lunch; however, students do not have to be from low-income families to receive help. For Title I School-wide Programs: Our students are in a Title I School-wide program. This means that our Title I money can be used to upgrade the educational program in ways that may impact every student in the school . This also means that every parent/guardian of a student in our school is a Title I parent! The schools set goals for improvement, measure student progress, using standards set forth in the state’s Title I plan, develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction, and involve parents in all aspects of the program.

4 Title I Programs Provide Supplemental Support
Smaller classes Additional teachers and paraprofessionals Additional training for school staff Extra time for instruction (Before and/or after school programs) Parental Involvement Activities A variety of supplemental teaching materials, equipment, and technology Title I funds are used to supplement the program at the school by providing funds which support the following types of activities: Additional teachers and paraprofessionals to create smaller classes Additional training for school staff Extra time for instruction (Before and/or after school programs) Parental Involvement Activities A variety of supplemental teaching methods and materials

5 Title I Budget Parents assist in deciding how to use Title I funds. Please attend meetings or complete surveys about our Title I Budget. All Title I schools must document that parents were involved in the budget process. Input from the Principal, Parents, School Advisory Council, and School Staff determines how Title I funds will be used. Explain the process the school uses to involve parents in the decision-making process. Explain that parents are critical to this process. Provide information on all of the opportunities parents have to participate. Opportunities to Volunteer: Describe the various opportunities for parents to volunteer or become involved in your school. Some examples might include: In the school, in classrooms, or on fieldtrips Decisions and Planning on How to Use Title I School Parent Involvement Funds District/School Councils - meetings throughout the year where parents participate in school-wide program planning, and decide how to use the Title I parent involvement funds School Parent Councils

6 Title I Budget Skycrest Elementary is provided $379,200 to pay for services and programs for our students. The Title I Parent Involvement budget is $8,470. We use our Title I funds to pay for the following: Staff members - LLI teachers, hourly teachers, paraprofessionals, technology specialist, MTSS coach. Instructional materials to support our reading, math and science programs. Connect to Success Computers Family night workshops Inform participates of the total Title I funds the school receives Describe your Title I program and what it looks like 1% of these funds are used to provide Parent Involvement activities How and when will parents help to determine how that money is spent? Describe how parent involvement funds were used the previous year. Explain that parents must have the opportunity to help decide how the parent involvement funds are used and what type of parent involvement activities they want or need to help their kids do better in school.

7 Parent’s Right to Know As a Title I parent you have the right to be involved in the development of the following plans and documents for our school: School Improvement Plan (SIP) Compact Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP) for the school and district You may request and attend meetings to express your opinions and to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of your children, *Please review these documents and attend meetings or complete surveys to share your input…we need and want you to be involved. Parents Rights under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Request the qualifications of your child’s teacher Be notified if your child is taught for more than 4 consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified Request opportunities for regular meetings with staff in order to make suggestions Participate in decisions relating to the education of your child Submit a written comment on the school-wide program plan when the school makes the plan available to the district (if you are not satisfied with the plan)

8 Parent’s Right to Know Be provided information on your child’s level of achievement on assessments in Reading/Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, and Science Request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teacher and paraprofessionals that are working with your child Principal’s Attestations Be informed if your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks. EOC= End of Course Exam FSA= Florida Standards Assessments Principal Attestations= the number of teachers that are non highly qualified or teaching out of field

9 School Classification
Our school grade for the school year was a C. Some strategies that are being used to improve the school’s grade and to ensure all students are successful: We are implementing school-wide Thinking Maps to increase critical and creative thinking. We are implementing strategies to improve speaking and listening skills in all content areas. We are increasing daily explicit vocabulary instruction in all content areas. We are implementing school-wide Class Meetings to build relationships with students (Restorative Practices). You may use this slide to explain your school’s grade

11 Educational Standards
Florida’s academic content standards establish high expectations for all students. Florida Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas. You may read more information by visiting, . Also, your child’s teacher will be able to explain the standards for your child’s grade level.

FSA – Writing – Grades 4 & 5 (March 6th – 8th) FSA – Reading – Grade 3 (April 9 – 13) FSA – Reading – Grade 4 (May 2 – May 5) FSA – Reading – Grade 5 (April 14 – April 19) FSA – Math – Grade 3 (April 16 – 19) FSA – Math – Grade 4 (May 2– May 7) FSA – Math – Grade 5 (May 8 – May 11) SSA- Science – Grade 5 (May 2 – May 4) Assessments—Add specific information on the assessments administered at the school ( FCAT, FAIR, EOC, etc.) Forms of academic assessment used to measure your student’s progress: by grade level Proficiency Levels – Describe the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. Describe specifically when (and how often) will parents receive reports on children’s progress?

13 Working together! Title I law requires that all Title I schools and families work together. How we work together is listed in our: School Level Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP) Parent-School Compact School Improvement Plan (SIP) Parents can also read the District’s Parent Involvement Plan (LEA PIP) at under Title I and a summary is written in, “Title I News”, which is given to all Title I families Section 1118 of No Child Left Behind requires meaningful involvement of parents in the decisions made at the school. Specifically, parents are required to be involved in the development, implementation, review and revisions of the Parent Involvement Policy, School-wide Plan (School Improvement Plan) and the Parent-School Compact. Parents are also required to be involved in the development of district wide policies. Title I District Parent Policy – how the district involves parents and build schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parent involvement and to help their children succeed. Must be reviewed and revised annually with parents. Distribute a copy of the District Parent Involvement Policy and review. Explain that Title I parents can be involved in reviewing and updating the policy each year (provide the dates/times for the meeting if available) Title I School Parent Involvement Plan (PIP) - how the school involves parents in organized, ongoing and timely ways in the planning, review and improvement of programs and provide opportunities for parents to learn how to work with our children to improve their achievement. Must be reviewed and revised annually with parents. Distribute a copy of the School Parent Involvement Policy and review. Title I School-Parent Compact – outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. 14 Parent-School Compact
Every Title I School has a Compact. It is an agreement between the parent, student, and school to encourage the highest student achievement Please review and sign your child’s Compact, then return it to your child’s teacher. Title I School-Parent Compact – outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. Must be reviewed and revised annually with parents. Distribute a copy of the School Parent Compact to review and discuss Explain that Title I parents can be involved in reviewing and updating the school/parent policy each year (provide the dates/times for the meeting if available)

15 Parent Involvement Plan (PIP)
Our school’s PFEP is located at our Title I Parent Station and a PFEP summary will be given to parents outlining our activities. The PFEP Sections include information about the following: Parent Trainings to increase student achievement Staff Trainings for engaging parents Communication methods between home and school Flexible Meeting Times Accessibility for parents Coordinating with other Federal Programs Provide information on the specific committees that parents can be involved. Include the purpose, date and time of meetings. Explain the PIP and its purpose, let them know that the PIP will be approved in October and they will receive a PIP summary

17 Title I Parent Station Our school’s Title I Parent Station is located in the front office of our school. You will find a copy of our School’s PIP, the School District’s PIP, Parent’s Right to Know Memo, Upcoming Events, Compact, and numerous other important documents. Where is your station? Inform parents about information that can found at the station…School’s PIP, LEA PIP, Parents Right to Know, SIP, Portal information, etc.

18 Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
The District has a Parent and Family Engagement Plan (LEA PFEP). The summary of the LEA PFEP is in the “Title I News” You may access it on PCSB.org, under Title I Tab The Parent Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing and revising it. PAC meets with the District’s Title I Family Education Specialist. PAC meets twice a year, if you are interested in representing our school please notify, Michelle Ladd, MTSS Coach
