Mass – Key Words Altar Blessed Sacrament Celebrant Communion A table for sacrifice. Blessed Sacrament The real presence of Jesus in the form of consecrated bread. Celebrant The priest or bishop who leads the liturgy. Communion We receive the body and blood of Christ. Consecration The action of the priest at Mass, which, by the power of the Holy Spirit, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ with the words ‘This is my body’, ‘This is my blood’. Eucharist Literally ‘Thanksgiving’. It is sometimes used for the Mass or the body and blood of Jesus in particular. Gloria A song of rejoicing in the goodness of God. This is said or sung.
