Student Insurance 101 An overview of the UnitedHealthcare StudentResources plan for Nebraska students

Presentation Objectives • Why insurance is important to have • How to get the most out of your UnitedHealthcare StudentResources insurance plan • What’s covered when you visit the University Health Center (medical, dental, pharmacy) • How much you pay if you go to off-campus healthcare facilities Get your questions answered by a UHCSR insurance representative!

Health Care in the U.S. • The U.S. does not offer free medical care to the general public • Medical care is very expensive • Insurance helps with the cost of unexpected injuries and illnesses

Why Insurance is Important • An unexpected injury or illness can put you in debt for decades • You can’t predict an accident or serious illness • Insurance provides peace of mind • Insurance can help you stay or get healthy • Your health and well-being are critical to your academic success • The University of Nebraska requires international students to have health insurance

About UnitedHealthcare StudentResources • The University of Nebraska has partnered with UnitedHealthcare to offer UnitedHealthcare StudentResources • Includes health, dental and prescription coverage for one low rate • Enrollment and waivers are managed by Ascension Benefits & Insurance Solutions

Automatic Enrollment & Billing* • International students and most graduate assistants are automatically enrolled • Student Accounts automatically bills the premium to students’ accounts • Other Nebraska students enrolled in six or more credit hours can voluntarily enroll in the UHCSR plan on MyRed *If you are automatically enrolled, you must confirm your enrollment to receive your health insurance card.

Coverage Periods* Fall semester • Aug. 1, 2017 to Dec. 31, 2017 Spring/Summer semester • Jan. 1, 2018 to July 31, 2018 *You must confirm your enrollment again in January for the spring/summer semester

Dependent Coverage • Dependent coverage is available at a reasonable rate • Dependents must also re-enroll for each coverage period

Graduate Assistant Rates Fall Coverage Period Spring/Summer Coverage Period Graduate Assistant Portion: 21 percent $209.18 $288.90 UNL Portion: 79 percent $786.88 $1,076.81

Benefits Maximized at Nebraska Medicine – University Health Center • Unlimited policy year maximum • No deductible, coinsurance or copays • Insurance pays 100 percent of medically necessary services, including: - University pre-enrollment health requirement immunizations and tests - Medical procedures and annual exams - Visits with medical specialists — Referrals are not needed - Annual optometry exam and refraction (glasses and contacts NOT covered) - Laboratory tests - X-rays - Physical therapy - Counseling and psychological services

Health Benefit Summary In-network provider outside Nebraska Medicine – University Health Center • $500 deductible per insured person per policy year • 80/20 percent coinsurance • $2,200 maximum out-of-pocket expenses — includes deductible, coinsurance and copays

ER, Urgent Care and Health Center Copays Emergency Room = $300 An emergency room visit must be a true emergency or it’s possible coverage could be denied Urgent Care Center = $75 Student Health Center = No copay; covered at 100 percent

Prescription Benefit Summary Benefits are maximized at Nebraska Medicine – University Health Center Pharmacy • Unlimited policy year maximum • $5 copay for Tier 1 prescriptions • $30 copay for Tier 2 prescriptions • $80 copay for Tier 3

Dental Benefit Summary • $1,000 policy year maximum • Two healthy mouth cleanings, two exams and two sets of bite wing X-rays per year are 100 percent covered • Those covered services come out of your $1,000 policy year maximum (You are responsible for keeping track of your maximum if you see dental providers outside the Health Center) • Other covered services – coinsurance applies

Confirming Enrollment Though international students and graduate assistants are automatically enrolled and charged for UHCSR, • You should confirm enrollment in UHCSR via MyRed each semester • You MUST have your current local mailing address in MyRed • Please confirm enrollment for the fall semester before Sept. 10

How to Confirm Enrollment

How to get a copy of your insurance card • Once you’ve confirmed your enrollment through MyRed, you will almost immediately receive an email from NeSISdonotrespondto@nebraska.edu that confirms their enrollment • In a few business days, you will receive an email from UnitedHealthcare StudentResources with instructions to get your card by signing up for “My Account”

Waive Insurance • Insurance company has valid U.S. address International students may only apply for a waiver if they have proof of equivalent health insurance benefits: • Unlimited medical benefits • A policy year deductible no greater than $500 • Medical evacuation and repatriation benefits that match the coverage provided university students through Ascension • Coverage for each semester when enrolled in class • Insurance company has valid U.S. address

Waive Insurance Non-international graduate assistants do not need to provide proof of equivalent health insurance benefits under another plan to waive the insurance.

How To Waive • Allow pop-ups on your computer • Go to MyRed • Go to the Student Accounts tab • Under Important Links, choose Waive Student Health Insurance

Be A Smart Health Care Consumer • Check plan details • Know your responsibility • Use preferred providers • Show your plan ID card • Read your EOBs • Call the UHCSR with questions Check plan details: Always check your coverage details before you have a procedure to make sure it’s covered. Know your responsibility: You are responsible for any charges not covered by the insurance. Use preferred providers: Save money by using doctors, dentists and other health care providers contracted with the insurance plan Show your plan ID card: Always sho your health insurance ID card when you receive care. Read your EOBs: Read the Explanation of Benefits you receive from the insurance company after you receive care Call the insurance company with questions: If you don’t understand the EOB or think you’ve been charged incorrectly, call the UHCSR
