1 Lubbock ISD New Hire Benefit Information overview

2 Welcome to Lubbock ISD! This presentation will assist new employees to complete the necessary benefit enrollment & payroll requirements to complete the hiring process. New employees should complete new hire requirements before the payroll deadline (by the 10th of each month is best). These include: Direct Deposit W-4 online Benefits enrollment online Sun Life Beneficiary online

3 Lubbock isd direct deposit for payroll distribution
Monthly pay periods are on the 27th of each month unless the 27th is on a weekend, then the paycheck falls on the Friday prior to the 27th. Direct Deposits can be changed with the Payroll Department if the proper documentation is received at least 15-days before a payday. W-4 online submissions follow the same deadline as Direct Deposits. For Payroll questions please call

Teacher Retirement System of Texas – or All employees are required to participate in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS.) For % is your contribution amount. An additional .65% is deducted for TRSCare insurance. This is a pre- taxed deduction. TRS is a defined benefit. For further information contact TRS directly.

Legal dependents can be carried until the month they turn 26. A spouse must be a legal spouse. Coverage can begin on the first day of work or the first day of the month of the employee’s first check. 10 LISD Go! Fit! Win! Wellness program
Employees’ can receive up to $75 per month off of medical premiums for participation. Children and spouses are not required to participate. Allow 48 to 72 hours to pass after benefit enrollment before Wellness registration.

Only the Bronze Medical Plan enrolled employees are eligible for a Health Savings Account. For 2019 LISD will match the first $500 and employee contributes through pre- tax payroll deduction. Health Savings Account money is not use or lose – it rolls year to year. Initial enrollment is through the TEAMS Employee Service Center.

12 Lubbock isd $0 Copay clinics and $0 copay generics
Click HERE for a link to the $0 Copay Clinic & $0 Copay Generic information. Bronze & Silver Medical Plan covered employees and dependents can utilize this benefit. Specific UMC locations offer certain services at no cost. If a $0 Copay Clinic provider prescribes a $0 Copay Generic and the employee fills the prescription at a United or Market Street Pharmacy then there is no cost to the employee.

13 Lubbock ISD Medical Plans
Hospital Income Plan – Only take if you have major medical elsewhere. NOT a major medical plan. $0 cost to the employee. Pays $250 per day for every day the employee is hospitalized. Enrolling in HIP online waives major medical with LISD.

14 Lubbock ISD dental reimbursement Plan
Premiums – cost per month Employee Only $ 0.00 Employee & One Dependent $20.00 Employee & Two or More Dependents $40.00 Plan pays direct to the employee via direct deposit. Dental plan year is January 1st through December 31st. Claims are entered by date of payment and payment amount. No provider list or restricted network – any service performed by a licensed dentist is covered. Co-coverage is allowed with an EOB. Employee or dependents can be reimbursed $1,000 each in a dental plan year. (100% of the first $100, 80% of the next $250 and 50% of the last $1,400.) 15 Lubbock isd employer paid life and ad&D policy
Employees enrolled in the Bronze and Silver Medical Plans have a $5,000 employer paid Life and AD&D policy. Employees enrolled in the Hospital Income Plan have a $25,000 employer paid Life and AD&D policy. Additional employee paid Optional Life is available without a health questionnaire if the form is submitted within 31-days from the date of initial employment.

16 First financial summary of optional benefits or First Financial is the third party administrator for some of LISD’s pre-tax benefits and optional coverages. Optional Benefits Offered: Vision, Life, Accident, Hospital Indemnity, Cancer, Critical Illness, Heart & Stroke, Identity/Legal Protection, Flexible Spending Accounts and Annuities. Enroll as a new hire within 31-days of the first assignment day or wait until the next open enrollment period. First Financial’s mandatory sign-off for pre-tax benefits is each fall.

17 Lubbock isd employee assistance program
LISD provides up to eight (8) free counseling sessions per household per contract year (September 1st – August 31st). Confidentiality is regulated by federal guidelines. Without formal written permission, no information whatsoever is released to your employer or supervisor concerning your use of the EAP or the nature of your program participation. 18 Lubbock isd sick leave bank 1-806-219-0244
Sick Leave Bank Open Enrollment is usually in the month of September. Leave Example: A ten (10) month campus assignment (August – May) might have five (5) local sick leave days and five (5) local leave days. Three (3) days initial donation to become a member and one (1) day to remain a member annually of the Sick Leave Bank. Sick Leave Bank members can apply for an additional 30 sick leave days once all available leave days have been used. Any sick and local leave not used in a school year will roll to the next school year.

19 HIPAA law protects employee privacy
HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA is a US law providing privacy standards to protect patients’ medical records and other health information provided to health plans, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers. Written consent must be given by the employee for health coverage information to be shared with any person other than the employee. Memorize your LISD Employee ID number to verify your identity.
