US Army Cadet Command Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Brief for Army Reserve Ambassador Conference Note to Briefer: you may wish to contact the Army National Guard or USAR Program Manager for clarification/training on the following slides. The first hidden slide has POC information. This presentation is intended for use by ROTC cadre for potential cadets or non-contracted cadets. It provides the basics. Hidden slides are for cadre use/information/reference. They may be used as part of the presentation if needed or desired. Additional briefs include GRFD Scholarship Types, GRFD-PMS (an overview), one for the GRFD-ROO & HRA (more detailed), ECP/EAP (2LTs for Military Junior Colleges), Green-to-Gold, and one for state recruiting personnel like the Officer Strength Manager or recruiters (similar to the ROO brief, but also provides state-specific information). Program Overview In 2015, Cadet Command introduced the Minuteman Scholarship program to enhance the USAR and ARNG’s ability to recruit highly qualified Cadets. In order to expand opportunities to qualified Soldiers, USACC authorized the USAR Ambassadors and CASAs to nominate Soldiers for the Army ROTC scholarship. During school year 2016-17, TAGs and MSC Commanders were capped but ARAs and CASAs were not.

Eligibility Requirements U.S. Citizen Between the ages of 17-30 Valid MEPS physical SF86 to obtain secret security clearance Pass a valid APFT Be in compliance with AR 600-9 HT/WT standards Official University/College acceptance letter 920 SAT, 19 ACT, or 110 GT line score on ASVAB (4yr) 2.5 College GPA or higher (also in last semester) Participate in Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) Once commissioned…8-year service obligation Graduate students can apply!

GRFD Scholarship Benefits A GRFD contracted scholarship Cadet can earn: Full Tuition/Fees or Room/Board ($10K per year) $1200 a year book stipend ROTC Cadet stipend each month ($300 Fr, $350 So, $450 Jr, $500 Sr) Earn E5 drill pay CH 1606 if MOSQ (can’t use if over 2yr scholarship) CH 30/33 if qualified (can use for all GRFD scholarships) SMP Kicker if MOSQ Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) (can’t use with scholarship) State Tuition option (ARNG) (varies state to state)

GRFD Scholarship Types Types of GRFD scholarships: Military Junior College (2 years) GRFD- AR (up to 2 years) GRFD- National Guard (up to 2 years) Dedicated Guard (up to 3 years) Dedicated AR (up to 3 years) Dedicated Guard 3yr Advance Designee Dedicated AR 3yr Advance Designee Senior Military College (4 years) 4YR Minuteman Scholarships All have full tuition and fees or room & board options Ded Scholarship recipient must serve in that RC (Ded AR Scholarship = AR LT; Ded ARNG Scholarship = ARNG LT) Cannot revoke scholarship to compete for AD

Minuteman Scholarship Process Identify potential nominations Pre-qualify all applicants ROTC will build Minuteman Scholarship packet Schedule PMS/MSC CDR interview PMS validates nomination Cadet is loaded in CCIMM 5. Scholarship packet is routed from ROTC to BDE to USACC PM. 6. USACC PM offers Scholarship tracked by GRFD control # Scholarship offer letter is sent to ROTC program 7. Scholarship is paid out 45 days into each term

Best Practices Never promise a scholarship School counsel the cadet in writing on benefits & options Additional counseling from RC recruiter & RC Unit Make sure scholarships are accepted w/in 21 days after making the offer Utilize BDE LNO or BDE S2 Keep updated RC Unit information (CDR, 1SG, UA) Does your school offer in state fees for out of state SMPs? Know this information Create a checklist for the on-site Unit visit
