First, let’s set up your foldable for today. 1. Fold your blank paper in half hamburger-style. Unfold the paper and draw a line along your fold line. 2. Fold your paper in half hot dog- style. Unfold the paper. Fold the two long edges in to meet in the middle.

Most energy originally comes from the sun in the form of light.

Unused energy leaves the Earth in the form of heat.

How do plants turn sunlight into food?

How do plant and animal cells get their energy?

Cells get their energy by breaking down glucose molecules. This happens in PLANT AND ANIMAL cells! Animals can’t produce their own glucose…so where does it come from?

CELLULAR RESPIRATION: the process in which glucose (food) is broken down and converted to energy for cell functions (ATP) *occurs in mitochondria of cells (on your foldable)

Cell also release HEAT in the process of cellular respiration! To perform cellular respiration, cells need two REACTANTS: 1. oxygen 2. glucose (food) After cellular respiration, cells make three PRODUCTS: 1. carbon dioxide 2. water 3. energy (36 ATP molecules) Cell also release HEAT in the process of cellular respiration!
