1 Thur Updated grades are posted  includes Enzymes Test and Notebook Check from yesterday Enzyme Test Retakes  everyday before or after school till THURSDAY! Chp.7:Cell Respiration Cornell Notes & Vocab

2 Pg.32 Glue in INB Check from yesterday

3 Pg.33 Set up Chp.6 & 7 Title Page
Include titles of both Chp.6 and 7 from book Include 3 pictures, 3 colors, 3 key words (total) Use book Chp.6&7

4 IN: Pg.34 Think back to cell organelles…
What is the function of the mitochondria?

5 Title them: Chp.7-Energy in the Cell & Cellular Respiration
Pg.35 Set up Cornell notes Title them: Chp.7-Energy in the Cell & Cellular Respiration

6 Energy is transformed (changed into different forms) in living things all the time.
For example, the chemical energy in food is transformed into the movement of your muscles. Plants take the radiant energy from the sun and turn it into chemical energy when they make food in photosynthesis. Any time energy is transformed, most of it is “lost” to the environment as heat.

7 How does the cell get energy?
The cell gets energy from carbon containing compounds-Mostly from the sugar, glucose (C6H12O6). Glucose is a high energy molecule. When the bonds in it are broken, energy is released.

8 What is the difference between an autotroph and a heterotroph?
Autotrophs make food through the process of photosynthesis. Heterotrophs eat other organisms to get energy.

9 What is cell respiration?
Occurs in the mitochondria. C6H12O O ATP + H2O + CO2 + HEAT Glucose oxygen Energy + water + carbon dioxide + heat

10 What is fermentation? Two types:
Fermentation produces energy when there is no oxygen Occurs in the cytoplasm. Two types: Alcoholic fermentation Glucose CO2 + alcohol + 2ATP Lactic acid fermentation Glucose lactic acid + 2 ATP

11 Finish Cornell Notes Write 3 questions Write 3 sentence summary

12 Pg.36-37 Chp.6&7 3-column vocab (Due Monday)
Photosynthesis Chloroplast ATP Cellular respiration 5. Fermentation Mitochondria Autotroph Heterotroph Glucose

13 Homework Work on 3 column vocab  due Mon

14 OUT Where do plants get their energy?
Where do animals get their energy? What is the main purpose of cell respiration?

15 Friday 11-15 Enzyme Test Retakes  everyday before or after school till THURSDAY! Chp.6&7 test is next Wednesday INB Check Wednesday

16 Objective Explain that photosynthesis uses light energy to convert CO2 and water to sugar.

17 REVIEW

18 IN: Pg.38 Think back to cell organelles…
What is the function of the chloroplast?

19 Set up Cornell Notes – Pg.39
Title them: Chp.6 Photosynthesis

20 What is photosynthesis?
The process in which glucose is made from the sun’s energy. Occurs in the chloroplast in plants. 6H2O + 6CO2 + light C6H12O O2 Water + carbon dioxide +light glucose oxygen

21 The steps of photosynthesis are:
Step 1 = Chlorophyll captures light energy from the sun Step 2 = Use CO2 to produce glucose

22 The glucose from photosynthesis then enters the mitochondria to complete cell respiration (O2 present) to make energy… or enters the cytoplasm to complete fermentation (no O2 present) to make energy.

23 Do plants do photosynthesis?
Do animals do photosynthesis? Do plants do cell respiration? Do animals do cell respiration?

24 Do plants do photosynthesis?
Do animals do photosynthesis? Do plants do cell respiration? Do animals do cell respiration?

25 Finish Cornell Notes 3 questions in left column
3-sentence summary at bottom

26 Photosynthesis & Cell Respiration Diagram
Pg.40: Pg.41: Photosynthesis & Cell Respiration Diagram Glue in Label Summary Products Reactants Equation Location in Cell Type of Cell Photosynthesis Cell Respiration Energy in the Cell

27 1. Label each column with the name of an energy process
1. Label each column with the name of an energy process. Photosynthesis Respiration Type of Cell -does the process occur in autotrophic cells, heterotrophic cells or both? Location in Cell - what organelle or structure does the process occur in? Reactants- What compounds are the raw materials of the reaction. (What is needed?) Equation-write the balanced equation for the reaction. Products -list the products that are made. Summary -summarize the entire process. Include definition of the process and include all the steps of the process and a brief overview of what happens during each.

28 Homework Work on 3 column vocab  due Mon

29 Out Photosynthesis Cellular respiration Fermentation
Use each of the following terms correctly in a paragraph (highlight the terms!) Photosynthesis Cellular respiration Fermentation

30 Monday 11-18 Enzyme Test Retakes  everyday before or after school till THURSDAY! Chp.6&7 test is Wednesday INB Check Wednesday Cell Respiration/Photosynthesis Lab today

31 In: Pg.42 Fermentation Cellular respiration Photosynthesis
Glue in the plant cell & label the cytoplasm, chloroplast and mitochondria. Next to each labeled structure, write the name of the energy creating process that occurs there: Fermentation Cellular respiration Photosynthesis

32

33 Pg.43 – Cell Respiration Lab
Glue in lab sheet & complete lab Record Data Answer analysis questions

34 Homework Finish lab analysis questions
Start studying for test on Wednesday!

35 Out Using a double bubble map, compare and contrast photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Cellular Respiration Photosynthesis Differences Similarities Differences 35

36 Tues 11-19 INB quiz today – get out a separate sheet of paper and number 1-10 Chp.6&7 test is tomorrow!!! INB Check tomorrow!!!

37 After Quiz – Complete Chp.6&7 Study Guide
Take home & STUDY!!! Due tomorrow for separate grade INB Check tomorrow  use extra time to prepare notebook, pg.33-43
