Transition and your Family Transition impacts you and your Family (spouse, children, parents, and friends) Having a plan and being informed about opportunities and benefits makes the transition easier Preserving your skills and experiences in the Army Reserve (USAR) or Army National Guard (ARNG) is beneficial to the total Army and your family There are many opportunities available to provide security and protection for your family

Reserve Component (RC) If you join the ARNG or the USAR: You will train with an assigned unit (of your choice) one weekend per month and two weeks annually. For this, you will receive pay and continue to enjoy the many benefits that come with continued military service.

Reserve Component Pay Pay Benefits: Annual Training (AT) pay Battle Assembly / Weekend Drill (48 MUTAs per year) Multiple Unit Training Assemblies (MUTA) Sat/Sun = four MUTAs = four active duty days Annual Training (AT) pay Generally two weeks per year

RC Pay MAJ MUTA Pay CPT Monthly Pay SGT Reserve Pay SPC

RC Retirement Active Duty: Active duty Soldiers earn 365 or 366 active duty points for every year of active duty. RC: RC Soldiers must earn a minimum of 50 points per year in order for that year to qualify as a credible or “good” year for retirement purposes. More information about points may be found at: https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/Earning%20Retirement%20Points

RC Retirement Continued Active duty Soldiers who transfer to the RC will retain their active duty points and will earn RC points while serving in the RC. Example: MSG/E8 with 20+ years of service (8 years on active duty) born in 1970 would earn in todays dollars $1,785.00 at the age of 60. (Grade [E8] - Total points [4449] - High 3 monthly average [$5,778] x .3090 % = Monthly Payment [$1,785]) All calculations are made in today’s dollars and don’t account for annual pay table increases. RC retirement pay is not payable until age 60. The calculator for RC retirement can be found at: https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/Army%20Reserve%20Retirement%20Calculator.
