The Facts Increasingly consumers want to know more about who makes the products they buy. Whether the products are environmentally friendly? What conditions are like for workers who make the product? What the manufacturers reputation is like – do they for example, use child labour, or are their products tested on animals? Is the packaging they use recyclable? Have any genetically modified (GM) additives or preservatives been used?

The Facts In the past few years there has been a rapid growth in the demand for organic food. As the world becomes smaller as a result of technological advances and consumers are made more aware of the conditions in which products are made, consumers in industrialised (rich) countries are developing a conscience and are demanding higher standards, fair trade agreements and ethical trading policies to support developing countries.
