2 Dictionary definition of Fairtrade trade between companies in developed countries and producers in developing countries in which fair prices are paid to the producers. "fair trade coffee"

3 When did it start? There are many stories about the history of Fair Trade. Some people say that the Americans were first with ten thousand villages who began buying needlework from Puerto Rico in 1946, who began to trade with poor communities in the South in the late 1940s.

4 First person to work for Fairtrade E. P. Thompson, in his work on 18th century England, described a society where the movement did not grow large enough to gain the benefit of the economical value. Thompson changed this view by making farmers and entrepreneurs look at their situations and business ideas differently E. P. Thompson, was a British historian, writer, socialist and peace campaigner.

5 What does fair trade do? Fair trade is a social movement whose goal is to help producers in developing countries to achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability in their country. Fair Trades job is to advocate the payment of higher prices to exporters, as well as improve social and environmental standards. Fair Trade seeks to promote greater equity in international trading partnerships through respect. It promotes sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to developing countries.

7 Starbucks Fairtrade Coffee For people who've been buying Fair Trade coffee, have probably noticed that Starbucks has only come in that direction. However only 8.5 % of its coffee is Fair Trade certified, according to “critics”. The rest of Starbucks' coffees are " ethically sourced," according to the coffee lovers. Ethical sourcing means ensuring that the products being sourced are created in safe facilities by workers who are treated well and paid fair wages to work legal hours. It also implies that the supplier is respecting the environment during the production and manufacture of the products.

9 Who is the CEO of Fairtrade? Paul Rice is the President & CEO of Fair Trade USA, the leading third- party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States. Since they launched Fair Trade in the USA in 1998, Paul has since levelled up to mainstream the Fair Trade movement and expand its impact.

10 How has Fairtrade helped? Fairtrade has helped many families in third world country's, by putting children of farmers through college, university and has guaranteed people a better and brighter future. Fairtrade is also making businesses in poorer country's more sustainable. Fairtrade guarantees a better deal for third world producers
