Introduction People may think that chubby children were considered as cute but nowadays we all know that obesity in children can be very hurtful for our nation's children. Obesity has increased and becomes a terrible illness that raises many health problems in children's lives. Parents need to take this seriously and be aware of their children's lifestyle to keep their weight in a healthy range.

What is Obesity? Obesity is defined as the excessive weight and abnormal accumulation of fat that can harm the health in childhood ages and causes a lot of consequences in the future In KSA, Obesity is increasing faster and faster in the recent days with an overall obesity prevalence of 35.5% in children (6-12 years of age). Statistics classified obesity as the fifth leading risk

Causes and associated factors Diet. History of the family Lack of exercise. Family factors. Socioeconomic factors.

Associated Health Problems An obese child can be have develop High blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Diabetes. Breathing problems. Musculoskeletal problems.

Treatment program A- Healthy eating 1- When buying groceries, choose fruits and vegetables. 2- Limit sweetened beverages 3- Sit down together for family meals 4- Limit the number of times you eat out

Treatment program (continued) B- Physical activity increase your child's activity level: 1- Limit recreational computer and TV time to no more than 2 hours a day. 2- Emphasize activity, not exercise. 3- Find activities your child likes to do. 4- If you want an active child, be active yourself. 5- Vary the activities.

Lifestyle changes for prevention and control Reduce the consumption of fast food, eat home cooked food, and provide fresh fruits for snacks instead of potato chips and candies Encouraged playing active games such as running, cashing and skipping. and outdoor activities like riding a bike, skating or soccer playing

Lifestyle changes for prevention and control (continue) Cut down TV watching hours. Parents must set a time limit for their children for watching television each day and stick to it. A good night sleep is one key reason to a healthy and a good life for kids as well as adults.

Conclusion Childhood obesity is pretty prevalent now more than ever. It is essential that parents take the needed actions in order to decrease the chances of having overweight or obese children and accordingly reduce the risks of getting sever diseases!
