Autumn 1 – Homework Project Your task is to complete a project using all the skills you have developed in your English lessons. Choose one of the tasks on the other side of this sheet and complete it to the best of your ability. The tasks are divided into the following categories: Enjoy - Aspire - Challenge These three categories are the levels of difficulty of each task. So, choose a task that suits your ability but make sure it challenges your skills. Due date: Monday 9th October 2017. Your tutor will mark your project and support you along the way. A member of the leadership team will also view your project. There will be house points available for effort and achievement.

Blue - Enjoy Yellow - Aspire Red - Challenge Create a postcard from your favourite holiday destination. Write a message to your best friend that describes this holiday destination (you will need to use the language techniques of descriptive writing). Yellow - Aspire Red - Challenge Produce a descriptive tour guide of the Maplewell School site for visitors. Research other tour guides so you can use the correct layout features and language techniques in your own work (and remember to write a bout all the great new things in place around the site). Write a TripAdvisor review of your experience of staying in ‘resi’ (Hotel Maplewell). You will need to do a little research on what a TripAdvisor review looks like and what language techniques are used. If you really want to rise to the challenge, you could interview your friends to get their opinions and write further reviews to complete a real webpage look. Write a book review of a good book you have read over the summer holiday. Provide only a synopsis of the plot and characters as you don’t want to spoil the story for other readers. If you really want to rise to the challenge, you could show of your PEEing skills explaining how a few snippets from the book really engage a reader. Produce the front page of a newspaper that features a recent news event from your local area. Make sure you research the layout and language features found in newspapers so you can use them in your own newspaper project. (You are allowed artistic licence with this project and are able to make your own news story up if you are pushed for content.) Design and create a leaflet that instructs your reader how to use cheats on the Xbox/PS4. Make sure you research the layout and language features found in instruction leaflets so you can use them in your own leaflet. Create a YouTube style video on a subject of your choice. (This is just for show to your class and MUST NOT be uploaded onto the internet.) Write an article about a subject you feel passionate about. Your article must persuade your reader to see the issue from the same point of view as yours. You will need to research / revise persuasive language techniques so that you can use these in your own work. If you are really brave, you may be able to deliver your argument as a speech in your key stage assembly. Using Google, research what a mini saga is and craft your own. You should aim to use a sophisticated vocabulary and a range of punctuation. Good Luck – this is a challenging task!
