Year 7 | English Homework Tasks | Term: Autumn 1 | Topic: An Introduction to Shakespeare Instructions: Each week you will complete one piece of homework. This will be either one of the activities below, or revision from your Knowledge Organiser for a test in class. Your teacher will let you know what homework activity you’re doing and when this should be handed in. Skills being practiced: Reading Skills: Show your understanding of what you have read by using quotations and analysing the effect of these on the audience or reader. Writing Skills: Show off your range of vocabulary, your understanding of grammar and your ability to write creatively. Creative Challenge: You can present this piece of work in any way that you choose: make sure that you think creatively! Research Challenge: You will need to use a computer or a library to help you find the information needed to complete this task. Homework activity: Select your favourite quotation from one of Shakespeare’s plays that you have studied. You may need your exercise book for this. Analyse the meaning of it by using a MQA paragraph. Reminder: MQA stands for Method, Quotation, Answer (analysis) Try to imagine that you are living in Shakespeare’s time. You are trying to encourage more people to visit the theatre. Write a persuasive speech to encourage other people of your age to visit the theatre. Use persuasive techniques to sell the positive points of going to the theatre to them, such as: Alliteration, Repetition, Rhetorical questions, Emotive language, Statistics, Triples, Exaggeration, Direct address. Choose to either: 1. Design and make a model version of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. You may wish to look at the official website to help you plan your model: Choose one of Shakespeare’s sonnets and write down why you think it is meaningful in the 21stcentury, OR what you like about it as a reader in 2019. OR What is your first impression of Macbeth? How effective is Shakespeare in creating a supernatural and tense atmosphere? Write one paragraph for each question to explain your point of view. Create a plan for a modern day adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Your plan must include: Setting Characters Plot Line: Beginning, Middle and End Design a costume for a male or female character in one of the plays you have studied. Find out what a Shakespearean sonnet is. How many did Shakespeare write? Why did he write them? What are sonnets often about? Create a fact file on your research. Don’t forget to check your spellings and word choice by using your Gem when completing your homework. These are available to buy on Parent Pay or through Mrs Parker, E5.
