Meet the team! Staff Teachers: Miss Haselden – Class 5 Mrs Mullen – Class 6, Phase Leader Miss Meadows – Class 7 Miss Matthews – Class 8 Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA): Mrs Pattison Teaching Assistants: Mrs Oyston and Mrs Mallinder

Year 3 and 4 – Lower Key Stage 2 Transition from Year 2 to Year 3 can be difficult for some children. We aim to prepare them for moving through school by becoming more confident, independent learners.

Developing a Growth Mindset “In a growth mindset, people believe that their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”

What will we do in the Autumn term? English – Instructions and Letter Writing. Maths – Place value, ordering numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Topic – Egyptians – Can we dig up the past? Science – Sound – How did Carter hear inside a pyramid? Computing – Using the Internet, communicating and collaborating. Art/DT - Design and make a pyramid with a hidden compartment. P.E. - Dance and gymnastics.

Reading New Reading Records – please take time to read the inside cover. Please listen to your child read at least three times a week and comment on their reading according to their target. Please read a range of texts – it does not have to be just school books!

Homework Spellings – Given out Friday and tested the following Friday. Reading - As much as possible. In school once a week to achieve their target. At home at least 3 times a week. Maths - Mathletics as often as possible plus a written piece set each week. Learning Log – Every term.

P.E. and Games Kit – Both named indoor and outdoor kit to be brought in on Monday and taken home Friday. The following outdoor games kit should be in school all week: Black/navy tracksuit bottoms Trainers Plain white round neck t-shirt Black/navy hoodie

Extra Curricular Activities A number of extra curricular activities will be available throughout the school year and you will be advised of these as and when we have confirmation. Children in LKS2 are given the opportunity to take up a musical instrument and letters will be handed out during the autumn term. This is run by external teachers and has a cost that is payable by parents/carers. Year 3 children have been offered a range of different instruments this year and we envisage the same happening next year.

ClassDojo

3 positive Dojos = a team point. 50 team points = a Bronze award. 100 team points = a Silver award. 150 team points = a Gold award. 250 team points = a Platinum award.

ClassDojo 3 negative Dojos in a day = missing playtime. 5 negative Dojos in a day = missing lunchtime.

Teacher Time Long messages before school – please come to the office. Short messages before school – when the teacher comes out. In Y3/4 the teacher is more available to talk after school.

Cloakroom Children only please. This allows them to develop independence and prepare themselves for the day. Any particular problems, please speak to the class teacher on the playground.

First Morning Bring Named jumper, named coat, water bottle (separate from lunchbox), book bag, lunch (if packed lunch). Where Class 5 – playground outside class cloakroom. Class 6 – playground outside hall door. (Children who go to breakfast club will follow the normal breakfast club procedure.) What will happen Teacher will come out before the bell. Goodbyes outside, line up and in with the teacher.

Lunches and Snacks Children in KS2 are no longer entitled to the government funded free school meals so there will be a cost for a school dinner. If you would like to move to packed lunches then please let the office know ASAP. Children can still have milk in KS2 but this needs to be paid for and you will need to get a form from the office. The children will be allowed to drink their milk straight after break time. Snacks are allowed at break time but we ask that these are restricted to healthy items such as fruit in line with school policy.

Differences between Y2 and Y3 There are a few differences between Y2 and Y3 and they are as follows: Children in KS2 do not have an afternoon break. However, this is something that we will be phasing out during the start of the autumn term. Lunchtime will be from 12:15 until 13:15 which is 15 minutes later than in KS1. Y3 will most likely be in the first sitting so this will not make too much of a difference. Fruit is not regularly provided for children in KS2 like it is in KS1. As mentioned, children can bring in healthy snacks for lunch. If there is any fruit leftover from KS1 it is normally distributed between the KS2 classes. Golden Time for KS2 is on a Thursday afternoon and children are given choices of what they would like to do as in KS1. These choices are changed regularly to give all children a chance to do a range of activities if they so wish. Merit Assembly is on a Friday afternoon in KS2 and this would be when they would receive their Merit Certificates and get any Special Mentions. As usual, you will be informed of the recipients of Merits in the weekly newsletter. Please do take the time to read this as it contains important dates and information.
