Bloom’s Taxonomy questions for evaluating products

Knowledge factual, recall and recognition Describe the product. What is it made from? Who is it for? When would it be used? Where is it used? How often is it used? Which one … ? What is the best one for doing … ? How much does it cost? Where is it sold? Who designed and made this? How has it been made? Where is it from? What sort, type or category of product is it? What other products are like this?

Comprehension translating, interpreting and extrapolating Do I like it? Is it what I need? Is it the right size, shape, pattern, colour, smell, taste? Is it easy to care for? Is it strong and sturdy? Is it safe? Does it do the intended job? Does it give value for money? What does it cost in relation to the income of the potential users? Demonstrate how the product is used. Explain why this product was developed. Explain what is meant by … (label or product feature). Give an example of …. Is this the same as … ? What would happen if this product were used for … (another purpose)?

Application to situations that are new, new slants What is my reaction to this product? Who might the user or owner be? Why might they want to buy it? How well was it designed? Does it work well? What materials and processes have been used? Why? Does it do what it was intended to? Does it look and feel good? How well is it made? Is it well finished? Is it strong enough? Is the cost appropriate? Is it really needed? How much will this product change people’s lives? Choose the best statements that apply to this product (statements given). How is it promoted and packaged? Predict what would happen if …

Analysis breaking down into parts, forms What is the function of this product or parts of the product? What do people think of this product? Does everyone think this product is a good invention? Who is it for? What assumptions have been made about the people who might use it? Whose needs or wants were possibly considered during designing and making this product? Why is this product like this? What are the motives of the people who designed and made it? What is the relationship between this product and … ? What makes this product distinct from others of its type? Does this product have an identity or image? How has this been achieved? Does the promotion target a particular age group or group of people? What are they trying to say about the product? How are they persuading you? What do people believe about this product? Is it true?

Synthesis combining elements into a pattern not clearly there before Would I want to own or use it? What would this reveal about me? What influenced the appearance and the way it works? How might the design have been developed? How would you test this to see … ? Propose an alternative solution to the product or part of product. How else would you … ? Suggest changes you could make to …. Develop a list of important features. How is this product different from one from five years ago, or another culture? How will this product be different in ten years’ time? What would happen if you were to add … ? What would happen if you were to make it? Why did the designer make it this way? What happens to it after use? How long will it last?

Evaluation according to criteria and state why What effect will this product have on people’s lives and relationships? Is this a better product than … ? Is this a more important invention than … ? Is this a more appropriate solution than … ? What is wrong with this product? Why is this product not as popular as … ? What could be done better or differently? How good is this product compared to … ? What difficulties do users find with this product? What difficulties do manufacturers have in making this product? What negative impacts does this product have on other people? Why have these particular materials been chosen? Can it be part of a sustainable world? What effect will it have on the built and natural environment? Where do the materials and resources come from? Will they run out? Is there a problem with side-effects? What else could have been used?
