Learning Supports Learning Supports Implementation Teams - Develop and support statewide AEA Learning Supports Implementation Teams (LSIT) that serve LEAs and build statewide capacity. Learning Supports Advisory Team - Engage stakeholders statewide (Learning Supports Advisory Team) to provide feedback and vet Learning Supports activities, services and products.

Learning Supports Infrastructure: Learning Supports Implementation Teams - Develop and support statewide AEA Learning Supports Implementation Teams (LSIT) that serve LEAs and build statewide capacity. Learning Supports Advisory Team - Engage stakeholders statewide (Learning Supports Advisory Team) to provide feedback and vet Learning Supports activities, services and products.

Learning Supports: Content Network - Engage national experts in the areas of Supports for Instruction, Safe, Healthy, and Caring Learning Environments and Youth Engagement for the purpose of identifying: Key indicators and thresholds Effective practices that match needs

Connections: US Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools Bridging Grant Competitive grants for SEAs to sustain prevention work – Iowa would be eligible for approx. $125,000. The SEAs role will be to assist LEAs to:  Establish partnerships to sustain prevention work  Seek new funding streams  Enhance prevention strategies

Connections: US Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools School Climate Initiative  5-7 awards, $4.2 – 5.8 million, 48 months  Adopt/adapt/develop school climate survey  Yr. 1, develop surveys  Yr. 2, administer surveys K-12, all students, staff, parents  20% of state enrollment must participate in survey in order to qualify  States partner with LEAs with greatest need  LEAs submit plans based on survey results

Learning Supports Activities: Coordinated Learning Supports Workshop Events Provide 6 days of Learning Supports professional development to build skills of AEA Learning Supports Implementation Teams and LEAs involved in LS initiatives. Each Workshop Event will include the following strands: Learning SupportsChallenging Behavior Mental Health/WraparoundOlweus PBISCommunity

Learning Supports Activities: Manual - Develop additional chapters for Learning Supports Implementation Manual  Introduction  Continuous Improvement Process  Using Data  Selecting the Right Strategies

PBIS:  Supplemental Supports  Leadership Teams  Trainers  Coaches  Evaluation  Visibility  Family Connections

Challenging Behavior  Increase skills and knowledge of FBA/BIP to 2 CBS’s per AEA  Increase skills and knowledge of FBA/BIP of all educational personnel in the state  Refine criteria basis for staff implementing FBA/BIP  Establish 1-3 BCBA IHE programs in the state to provide replenishment of personnel with FBA/BIP skills

Wraparound  Overall outcome- ◦ Develop capacity at tertiary level embedded in the PBIS structure  Activities for ◦ Training and supports delivered to 9 identified schools/districts (Cohort 2) ◦ Identification of AEA personnel to work with identified Cohort 3 sites for implementation in ◦ SIMEO data system established to input and track wraparound data ◦ Coordination across existing projects/initiatives ◦ Evaluation

Mental Health  Overall outcome- ◦ Increase foundational knowledge of student mental health through professional development and ICN training  Activities for ◦ Develop professional development and online resources for specific diagnosis areas (e.g., ADHD, eating disorders, depression) ◦ Identify and pilot mental health survey (Cohort 1 Wraparound schools)

Olweus  Continued training and support for Olweus trainers  Safe Dates Curriculum  Support to LEAs ◦ ICN Sessions ◦ Regional Training  Evaluation  Contribute to national work through network of State Coordinators

GEAR UP  Transition to high school  Individualized addressing academics and learning supports from each of 28 high schools  Professional Development and Technical Assistance offered on an individual district basis and through Learning Supports workshops

Administrator’s Manual  Overall outcome- ◦ Increase awareness and knowledge of ASD characteristics, foundations of legislation for individualization, and 6 core elements of education practice to support special education programming for school administrators  Activities for ◦ Develop, pilot, revise and disseminate manual
