2016 Mechanics Changes

Admin Varsity Game Eligibility Active member Test (70%) Playoffs (80%) At least one TASO Football approved Rules Clinic Session prior to the first game of each season A TASO approved Rules Clinic Session is defined as credit for: At least 4 hours of classroom breakouts at the State Meeting, or Attendance at a Regional Rules Clinic, or Completion of an approved on-line course. 4. Game eligibility Varsity Game Eligibility a. Must be an active member and must take and pass (with a minimum score of 70%) an annual rules and mechanics exam before working his/her first varsity game assignment. Failure to meet this requirement will make the member ineligible to officiate a varsity game for the upcoming season. To be eligible for a play-off game, the official must score an 80 or above. b. An active member must receive credit for at least one TASO Football approved Rules Clinic Session prior to the first game of each season. Failure to meet this requirement will deem the member ineligible to officiate a varsity game for the upcoming season. A TASO approved Rules Clinic Session is defined as credit for: • At least 4 hours of classroom breakouts at the State Meeting, or 2) Attendance at a Regional Rules Clinic, or 3) Completion of an approved on-line course. c. A new member is considered an active member and must comply with items a. and b. BEFORE he/she may be assigned or officiate a varsity game. d. A member may not officiate more than one varsity contest in a span of one calendar day. This doesn’t apply to six-player games or to the emergency rescheduling of games due to inclement weather. Sub Varsity Game Eligibility a. Must be an active member and must take and pass a regular member’s test or New Member’s Test, (with a minimum score of 70%) before they are assigned their sub varsity game. 5. The annual exam will be prepared and available to all officials on the last Monday in July through the first Tuesday in November of the same year, or as determined by the TASO Football Division Board of Directors. ALSO the question has come up if a team can watch video at half time: The rule says you cannot watch video during the game or between periods. Half time would be considered between periods.

2016 Mechanics Changes SECTION 4. PRE-GAME DUTIES ON FIELD ARTICLE 1. PROCEDURES ALL A. Anytime players of both teams are on the field, up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled game time, at least one official shall be present on the field. ALL B. Arrive on the field as a unit, no later than 15 minutes before scheduled game time; sooner if duties require. C. Note location of press box, team areas and benches. Check identities of team trainers and game administrator(s). R, L D. Inspect entire field. Observe any unusual markings or serious irregularities and advise other officials. Take measures to remedy or remove any hazards from within or near the boundary lines, requesting assistance from management and from other officials as necessary. How manual reads now . Only an emergency and notice to the Referee may excuse an absence. Will be reformatted to be more readable
