National University of Management, A Case Study on Learning Outcome- Based Curriculum Designed Hor Peng, Ph.D. Chairman of Rector Council of Cambodia & Rector of National University of Management

The concept of Learning Outcome Based Education is a key policy reform of education in the current public school system. “smart is passed exam” “new generation classroom”

In Cambodia’s university system, the concept of learning outcome based education is not new. It is known as a modern method of education based curriculum designed [program, course & degree] starting with a clear picture of what is important for students to be able to do … and then organizing the curriculum, course delivery and assessment to make sure learning happens... Institutionally speaking the concept we applied is an input-output based education [enrollment – teaching & learning process – assessment and graduation]. However, in our current university system, the learning outcome based curriculum designed is made positively progress but at the same time it has challenging with limited resources.

NUM has introduced concept of learning outcome based education by the development of curriculum designed, activity of teaching and learning inside/outside classroom and upgrade modern facilities within good learning environment. A piloted project: IBBA + IMBA Learning Outcome based Curriculum Designed

LO Curriculum Designed: Stakeholder’s Consultation (Gov’t, Industry, Business Company, NGOs, Alumni, Students, Professional Associations, Faculty Staff …)

we advise and encourage all lecturers who invited to teach at NUM, has to introduce the four pillars of education for teaching and learning activities [course lesson plan] inside and outside classroom.

Activities in the Classroom ( Lecturers and Guest Speakers )

Multi activities outside classroom: study tours, internships, seminars, field trip

Job Access Evaluation 2016 (1) At during study [year (1-4)] In 2014, 66% obtained jobs but they mismatched 51%. In 2015, 69% obtained jobs but they mismatched 43%. (2) After graduated 2-5 years (220 alumni, 2016), skill match 68.6% & mismatch 31.4%
