Week 6 Drafting 1309: Basic CAD Andrew Amini Professor Drafting and Design Engineering Technology, HCC

Quiz: Next Week 1 Starts at the beginning of class

Drawing Commands 2 RECTANG-allows you to draw a rectangular polyline. COMMAND: REC or RECTANG Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevator/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: Specify the point of the X,Y Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: Specify a point of the X,Y Options: Fillet-Set the fillet radius for all the corners in the rectangle Width-Set the width of all the lines

Drawing Commands 3 POLYGON- Creates an equilateral closed polyline. You can specify the different parameters of the polygon including the number of sides. The difference between the inscribed and circumscribed options is shown. Specify the number of sides in a polygon. Inscribed in a circle and circumcised in a circle are shown below:

Drawing Commands 4 DIVIDE-Creates evenly spaced point objects or blocks along the length or perimeter of an object. Select object to Divide: Specify a geometric object such as a line, polyline, arc, circle, ellipse, spline. Number of segments: places points at equal intervals along the selected object.

Drawing Commands 5 MEASURE- Creates point objects or blocks at measured intervals along the length or perimeter of an object. Object to measure: Select the reference object along which you want to add the point objects or blocks Length of segment: Places point objects at the specified interval along the selected object, starting at the endpoint closest to the point you used to select the object. Measurement of closed polylines starts at their initial vertex (the first one drawn).

Editing Commands 6 TRIM- shortens an object to meet another object. COMMAND: TRIM Select object or : Choose object that defines the cutting edge at which you want to trim other object. Select object to trim or shift-select to extend or [Fence/Crossing/Project/Edge/erase/undo]: Pick the lines you want to trim one at a time. These include lines, arcs, circles, or polyline.

Editing Commands 7 FILLET- creates an arc with a predefined radius between any two lines, arcs, circles, and plines. The fillet arc is inserted based on the fillet radius. COMMAND: FILLET MODE-TRIM, RADIUS=0.000 Select first object or [Undo/Polyline/Radius/Trim/Multiple]: Pick the first line to fillet Select the second object or shift-select to apply corner: enter P select 2-D polyline enter R “Enter fillet radius”

Editing Commands 8 ARRAY- Creates multiple copies of objects in a pattern. COMMAND: ARRAY Rectangular Array Options Rows: Specifies the number of row (min 1, max 100,000) Columns: Specifies the number of column (min 1, max 100,000) Row offset: Specifies the distance between rows (use negative number to draw rows to the right) Column offset: Specifies the distance between column (use negative number to draw rows downward) Angle of array: Specifies the angle of the array

Display Commands 9 View- Saves and restores named model space views, layout views, and preset views Fill- Controls the display of filled objects such as hatches, 2D solids, and wide polylines. List of prompts: On - Turns on Fill mode. For the filling of a 3D object to be visible, its extrusion direction must be parallel to the current viewing direction, and hidden lines must not be suppressed. Off- Turns off Fill mode. Only the outlines of objects are displayed and plotted. Changing Fill mode affects existing objects after the drawing is regenerated. The display of lineweights is not affected by the Fill mode setting.

Display Commands 10 ZOOM- lets you enlarge or reduce drawing view. COMMAND: ZOOM Only the following are applied in this class: A (All): The entire drawing is shown on the screen C: Circle specify the center point for a circle P (Previous): Display the last view created by a previous zoom command W (Window): Allow you to enlarge an area by picking the lower left and upper right hand corner. Specify the first corner. Pick a point. Specify the opposite corner. Move the cursor to form a window in which you want to zoom, then pick again. S (Scale): Enter the scale factor (nX or nXP): Zoom the

Display Commands: ZOOM 11 Display at a specified scale factor. For example, enter 2x to double the display. Enter 0.5x causes each object to be displayed at half its current size on the screen.

Data Related Commands 12 AREA- Calculates the area and perimeter of objects or of defined areas. Specify the first corner point: Calculates the area and perimeter defined by specified points Specify next point: Continue to specify points to define a polygon and then press Enter to complete the definition of the perimeter. Object-Calculates the area and perimeter of a selected object. Select objects such as circles, ellipses, splines, polylines, polygons, regions, and 3D solids. If you select an open polyline, the area is calculated as if a line were drawn from the last point entered to the first. When the perimeter is calculated that line length is ignored.

13 Turns on Add mode and displays the total cumulative measurements of subsequent areas that you specify. You can pick points and select objects to obtain the calculation. For example, you can select two objects to obtain a total area. Subtracts areas and perimeters from a total area. You can pick points or select objects to obtain the calculation. In the following example, the second selected object is subtracted from the first.
