3 Views and Viewports3 View Resolution u AutoCAD u Can save time in zooming and panning at the expense of display accuracy. u Can provide a highly accurate display at the expense of zoom and pan speed. u The main factor is the view resolution.

4 Views and Viewports4 View Resolution u The view resolution is the number of lines used to draw circles and arcs. u High resolution values display smooth circles and arcs. u Low resolution values display segmented circles and arcs.

8 8 View Resolution u The variable VIEWRES u Controls the display smoothness of circles and arcs. u It can vary between 1 and 20000. u Default setting is 100. Produces a relatively smooth curve. u A number < 100 causes circles to appear more “jagged”. u A number > 100 causes circles to appear smoother.

11 Views and Viewports11 Setting View Resolution u AutoCAD trades view resolution for panning and zooming speed. u The View Resolution refers to the number of lines used to draw circles and arcs.

12 Views and Viewports12 Setting View Resolution u Command Sequence: u VIEWRES: u Do you want fast zooms? u Enter circle zoom percent (1-20000) : u A number smaller than 100 causes more lines to be used to draw circles and arcs.

13 Views and Viewports13 Setting View Resolution u If speed is a concern, respond with Yes, and AutoCAD uses fast zooms. u AutoCAD performs a REDRAW only when zooming and does not perform a REGEN. u If speed is not a concern, respond with No. u A REGEN will be performed each time.
