Welcome! Drafting 1309: Basic CAD
Andrew Amini Professor Drafting and Design Engineering Technology, HCC

Commands Circle-Draws a circle based on a center point that has a diameter and radius Specify centerpoint of a circle: [3P/2P/TTR (tan, tan, radius)] Specify Radius of a circle-defines the radius of the circle, you can override radius by typing in D for Diameter-defines the diameter of the circle 3 Points-draws a circle based on three points on the circumference Tan,Tan,Tan-Creates a circle tangent to three objects 2 Points-Creates a circle based on two diameter endpoints Tan,Tan, Radius-Draws a circle with a radius that is tangent to two objects

Commands: Circle To change the size of the circle or of any other object then the scale command can be used to increase or decrease the size of the object

Editing Commands Copy-Copies objects a specified distance in a specified direction. Copy-> select object-> enter-> left click to place copied objects-> press enter to leave the copy command Move-moves objects a specified distance in a specified direction. Objects are moved via coordinates, grid snaps, and object snaps Move->select object->specify a base point->Second point

Editting Commands Rotate-Rotates an object or group of objects to a specified angle Command: Rotate Select objects- Selected the desired objects Specify base point-pick the point about which the objects are to be rotated at Specify rotation angle or [Copy/Reference]: Enter the angle of rotation or R to specify a reference angle Reference-Allows you to specify the rotation angle in reference to the object’s current angle 1. Reference angle <0>: Enter the current angle of the object 2. New Angle: Enter a new angle or pick an angle with the cursor

Drawing Aids Layer-Manages layers and layer properties Layer Prompts: ?- List Layers-shows names, states, color numbers, line types, line weights Make-Creates a layer and makes it current Set-Specifies a new current layer but does not create a layer New-Creates a layer Rename-renames an existing layer On-Makes selected layer visible and available for plotting Off-Makes layers invisible and excludes them from plotting Color-Changes the color associated with the layer Ltype-changes the linetype associated with the layer Lweight-changes the lineweight of the layer

Drawing Aids Ltscale-Set a global linetype scale factor

Data Related Commands DIST- measures the distance and angle between two points Command: DIST Specify first point: Pick the beginning point of the distance Specify second point: Pick the end point of the distance A series of results will be seen on the Command Line: Distance: Angle in XY plane: Angle from XY plane: Turn on F3 OSNAP to measure the distance beween specific points such as End, Center, Intersection

Data Related Commands List- To find the length and the angle of the object. Tells you the coordinate location, color, layer name Command: List Select Objects: Pick the object that you wish to see The screen will flip to the text mode Press back to return to the graphic mode ID-displays the ucs coordinate values of a specific location

Display Commands DSETTINGS-sets grid, snap, polar/object snap tracking, object snap modes. Dynamic Input and Quick Properties GRAPHSCR-causes the text window to display behind the application window or press F2

Data Management Object Snaps-specifies a precise point at a location on an object Object Properties Toolbar-

Function Keys Function Keys-Function keys provides instant access to commands ESC-Escape key used to delete or abort a recent Command and return the lines back to the Command prompt F1-displays help F2-view text commands history F3-ONSNAP settings on/off F6-Three-way coordinate display On/Off. Used with 3-D modeling to align the XY plane of the UCS with a plane on a solid model while creating objects

Function Keys F7-GRID display on/off. On-F7 Off-F7 Aspect-Sets horizontal (X-axis) and Vertifical (y-axis) grid increments. Enter 0 to make the grid spacing match the SNAP settings F8-ORTHO mode On/Off forces lines to be drawn perpendicular following the orientation of the crosshairs. Command: ORTHO, Enter mode [ON/OFF]: It is not possible to draw a line diagonally when ORTHO is turned on ORTHO can be accessed with the F8 key ORTHO can be toggled on/off in a series of drawings

Function Keys F9-SNAP mode On/Off Command: Snap Specify Snap spacing or [ON/OFF/Aspect/Style/Type]<0.5000>: On (or F9): Turn on the Snap to move the crosshairs any defined increment Off (or F9 Again): Turn off the Snap, move the crosshairs at any increment When enter the snap spacing value of 0.25 the cursor will jump every quarter-unit Style-Allows you to change to Isometric mode (Not for now) Aspect- this option is when you want the X and Y spacing to be different Use DSETTINGS or OSNAP to change the snap spacing, rotation, style
