Moving from Year 1 to Year 2 Bedfont Primary School

 National curriculum objectives  Greater emphasis on reading, understanding in maths and technical writing National Curriculum

 Assembly  Phonics/Spelling  Maths  Guided Reading  Playtime  Literacy  Lunch – straight out to play  Afternoon sessions – IPC, PE, Library, music  French once a week Daily routine

 Start of the day 8.50  Learning about topics in depth  Rehearsing, role play and activities in literacy  Time to explore and reflect Attendance and punctuality

Active learning The children continue to develop independent, paired and group work skills.

IPC Subjects  Science  Geography  History  Art  Design and Technology  Computing Topic work

Projects Each topic will be accompanied by a project to help children explore the topic further at home. Suggestions of activities to help enrich the children’s learning and understanding.

Classrooms Swan class enter from the infant playground in the mornings. Collect from own door in the afternoons. Kingfisher and Seagull class use their own entrances at the front of the school for mornings and afternoons.

End of KS1 At the end of Year 2, children will take assessments in: Reading; English grammar, punctuation and spelling; Maths. The tests are due to take place in May of each year. Later in the year, we will hold a meeting to give more information about end of year assessments.

 Children who do not pass the phonics screening in Year 1 retake in Year 2  Phonics blending will continue to be a priority to support reading and writing development Phonics retake
