UNIT 8: VOLUME VOCABULARY 8 TH GRADE MATH MS. CARQUEVILLE

VOLUME OF A CONE VOCABULARY

VOLUME: THE MEASURE OF SPACE OCCUPIED BY A SOLID REGION.

RADIUS: THE DISTANCE FROM THE CENTER TO ANY POINT ON THE CIRCLE.

HEIGHT: A MEASURE OF A POLYGON OR SOLID FIGURE, TAKEN AS A PERPENDICULAR FROM THE BASE OF THE FIGURE.

CONE: A 3-DIMENSIONAL FIGURE WITH ONE CIRCULAR BASE. A CURVED SURFACE CONNECTS THE BASE AND VERTEX.

VOLUME OF A CYLINDER VOCABULARY

CYLINDER: A SOLID THAT HAS TWO PARALLEL, CONGRUENT BASES (USUALLY CIRCULAR) CONNECTED WITH A CURVED SIDE.

VOLUME OF A SPHERE VOCABULARY

SPHERE: THE SET OF POINTS THAT ARE ALL THE SAME DISTANCE R FROM A GIVEN POINT IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL SPACE. THIS DISTANCE R IS THE RADIUS OF THE SPHERE, AND THE GIVEN POINT IS THE CENTER OF THE SPHERE.
