A National Bank – Cha’ Ching! This bank would issue paper money – the US dollar Thomas Jefferson argued that the bank was unconstitutional because the Constitution did not give the specific power to the government He had a “Strict” interpretation of the Constitution that only the powers set up for the Federal government, that government could use Hamilton Responds = “necessary and proper” clause states that they could in fact do this because it was necessary

A rebellion once again The Whiskey Rebellion A new tax is put on Whiskey products Farmers revolted because it hit their pockets When Pennsylvania clerks went to collect the taxes, farmers burned down the tax collectors home and began marching towards Pittsburg Washington responded quickly and sent the militia to quell the rebellion Washington then later pardoned the leaders of the rebellion The actions of Washington both reaffirm the authority of the President and National Government, though ease fears of tyranny through the forgiving of the rebellious leaders.

How was it complicated further? 2. b. What was Hamilton’s plan to solve the crisis? Why was it controversial? 5. A newspaper account of George Washington’s inauguration referred to him as “the savior of his country.” That was a reference to Washington’s service as commander in chief during the Revolutionary War. If you were to begin reading an essay about the life of George Washington list five questions you would like it to answer.
