Our Solar System  Our solar system has eight planets and several dwarf planets.  An asteroid belt separates the inner planets and the outer planets in the solar system.  Everything in our solar system revolves around the sun.

The Sun o In the middle of our solar system, we find our sun. o If we could dig to the core of the sun, the temperature would be 136,000,000 Celsius! o The Romans called the sun, Sol, which means sun in English.

Mercury You would be lighter on Mercury than you would on Earth because Mercury is smaller. Mercury shines bright in the morning and the afternoon. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.

Venus Venus is a very hot planet! Venus and Earth are pretty similar in size. There are numerous volcanos and mountains on Venus.

Earth Earth is the only planet that can support life. Earth has liquid water on it’s surface. Earth has one (1) moon called Luna.

Mars Mars’ common nickname is The Red Planet. A year on Mars is 1 Earth year and 320 Earth days. Because of evidence, there may have been rivers and ocean even!

Asteroid Belt The asteroid belt separates the inner planets and the outer planets. Most asteroids are found in the asteroid belt. There is an inner belt and an outer belt.

Jupiter Jupiter has a great storm called The Great Red Spot. There are also rings for Jupiter, but they’re invisible. Earth could fit into Jupiter one thousand times!

Saturn Saturn actually has visible rings that surround it. Like all the outer planets, Saturn is a gas giant. Saturn’s rings are made of tiny bits of rock.

Uranus Uranus is actually tilted sideways as well it’s rings. Because Uranus is tilted sideways, one pole is almost completely covered in darkness. Uranus has about thirty moons, twenty-seven (27) to be exact.

Neptune Neptune is the windiest planet in the solar system. Like Jupiter, Neptune has rings, but they are invisible. Much like The Great Red Spot, there’s a giant spot called The Great Dark Spot.

Dwarf Planet Pluto Pluto was a planet, but it takes an incomplete orbit around the sun, so now it’s a dwarf planet. Scientists don’t even know, but Pluto may be smaller than Mercury. Pluto is smaller than seven of the moons in the solar system!

Telescope Telescopes allow you to see certain planets! You can’t see Pluto with a telescope. There are even giant telescopes in buildings for it.

Galaxy Galaxies are giant groups of stars, gas, and dust. Our galaxy is called The Milky Way. Galaxies crash, but it doesn’t cause major damage!

Universe Everything that exists in space is the universe. Millions of galaxies exist in the universe. The universe is at least 93 billion light years (about 93 trillion years!).

Asteroid Ceres and Pallas are two named asteroids. If all asteroids were squashed together, it would be smaller than our moon! Quaoar is the largest known asteroid in the world!

Supernova A supernova is a very big planet exploding. After exploding, it becomes a black hole or other things! Supernovas are brighter than the stars around it.

Black Holes! Black holes use gravity to suck things up. Light can’t even escape if it gets too close! If you go in a black hole, you may never come out! 

THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!!!!!
