Presentation transcript:

Recognition and acknowledgement of technical skills obtained during a course of study Student may become a more sought after employee with the potential for higher salary Sense of pride and accomplishment Self confidence from receiving a credential or certificate recognized by business and industry Evidence that the student has successfully completed a rigorous program of course work aligned and supported by business and industry Increased value to the high school diploma

A Family and Consumer Sciences department acknowledged for a comprehensive, rigorous program of study A Family and Consumer Sciences department in alignment and compliance with the wishes of Perkins IV guidelines Student recognition for completing a skills based course of study in line with business and industry standards and the demands of the 21 st century Validation that family and consumer sciences education is effective for providing a competent, skilled workforce

Technical and skills assessed students make better, stronger, and more reliable employees. Hiring decisions are easier if a student has a certificate or credential. Industry based credentials provide a link between secondary education and a quality, highly skilled workforce. Employees who acknowledge the importance of employment skills training and the value of a certificate or credential.

Reduces student duplication of coursework already mastered Facilitates curriculum alignment, relevance and rigor Promotes communication between all levels of education Assists with student recruitment Reduces attrition at both the high school and post- secondary level Promotes a more prepared and cohesive educational system Allows more time for specialization coursework by the student Facilitates “on time” graduation rates
