Lesson #1Summary The United States is in North America. It is made up of 50 states. Forty-eight of those states are contiguous. Alaska and Hawaii are not contiguous. The country is divided into to four geographic regions. The Northeast is the smallest in size but the largest in population. The South is a popular vacation destination. The Mid- West is the farming center of the U.S.. The Rocky Mountains are a major landform in the West Region.
