History In 1998 DSM merged with the Dutch biotechnology group Gist-brocades, a producer of food ingredients (yeasts and enzymes) and anti-infectives. In 2000 DSM acquired US-based pharmaceuticals company Catalytica Pharmaceuticals. In 2002 DSM sold its petrochemicals business to SABIC (Saudi-Arabia), in line with its strategy of becoming a specialty company focusing on advanced biotechnological and chemical products for the life science industry and performance materials.
