Distribution of Earth’s Water:  3% fresh water  97% salt water (oceans) 
The “Water” Planet…….. -97% is salt water. -Apx. 3 % is fresh water. -However, Apx. 2/3 of this fresh water is frozen. -Leaving Apx. 1% of all fresh water.

 Last week we discussed how run-off can occur two different ways:  Surface Run-off – water flowing on the surface to streams, rivers and oceans.  Subsurface.
Ground Water. Any water that seeps under the surface of the Earth Important source of drinking water Divided into 2 zones.
Groundwater All water found underground, frequently in: Joints and cracks in rocks Open space between sediment grains.

Point Vs Nonpoint Source Pollution

Point Source Pollution -Direct discharge of pollutants into the water.

Non-point source pollution -Indirect discharge of pollutants into water - comes from a wide variety of sources - Surface water run off

Porosity and Permeability Porosity- is a measure of how much of a rock is open space. This space can be between grains or within cracks or cavities of the rock.

Porosity and Permeability Permeability- is a measure of the ease with which a fluid (water in this case) can move through a porous rock.
