During November of 1924 Langston wrote his first book of poems called, “The Weary Blues.” Birth Febraury1,1902 The year of 1926 in Washington D.C (where “The Weary Blues were written) His first poem book was published. He was first recognized in high-school for his talent.

In Hughes’s Past Life Born in Joplin Missouri. He lived with his grandmother, Mary Patterson Leary Langston, in Lawrence, Kansas because his parents were divorced. When he was 13 he lived with his mother in Lincoln Illinois until they later moved to Cleveland, Ohio and he went to high-school. Neither his grandma or his parents paid much attention to him so he grew up insecure. After graduation, he spent a year in Mexico and went to Columbia University. During his “college years” he had very peculiar jobs such as an assistant cook, launderer, and a bus boy. He went to Africa and Europe and was a seaman.

In Hughes’ Adult Life Langston Hughes later became known for his colorful, and insightful descriptions of black life in America, especially from the 1920’s to the 1930’s. He wrote 11 plays, and countless prose. (Prose-opposite of poetry-paragraph form.) He was very important in shaping artistic people of the Harlem Renaissance. He wrote about both suffering and their love of music, laughter, and language. In 1930 Hughes’ first novel, ”Not without Laughter” won the Harmon Gold Medal for literature. During November of 1924 Langston wrote his first book of poems called, “The Weary Blues.” Later, in 1926, “The Weary Blues” got published in Washington D.C

Who? What? When? Where? Why? Langston did most of his activism where he finished some of high-school. In Cleveland, Ohio. He told the truth about African-American life in extraordinary ways through his writing.
