Where is the Amazon rain forest?  Over half of the Amazon rainforest is located in Brazil but it is also located in other South American countries including Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Bolivia, Suriname and French Guiana.

What is the Amazon Rainforest and why is it important?  Rainforests are forests with a high level of rainfall.  The amount of rain that falls in a year, in a rainforest is 250 cm to 450cm.  There are two types of rainforest: tropical rainforest and temperate rainforest. The Amazon rainforest is a tropical rainforest.  Every minute an area the size of three football pitches is destroyed.  One third of animal species live in the amazon rain forest.  Amazonian trees create oxygen we breath.

How big is the Amazon Rainforest?  The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest in the world, covering over five and a half a million square ( )kilometres (1.4 billion acres).
