Presentation transcript:

The sun is a great source of energy.  It does not create pollution or harmful emissions  It’s plenty  It’s FREE

 In my home country Cyprus there is an average sunshine of 13 hours a day.  They started utilizing the solar energy in Cyprus in 1960 as solar heaters.  Now it is also used to powering telecommunication receivers and transmitters at remote areas, where the electricity grid does not reach.

 Monocrystalline cells  Polycrystalline cells  Amorphous or thin film

 Monocrystalline cells  Polycrystalline cells  Amorphous or thin film They are mainly made of a semi- conducting material, common silicon, which has the ability to free electrons when sunlight photons hit it.

The photovoltaic cells produce Direct Current (DC). The systems use an Inverter to convert the Direct Current into Alternative Current(AC).

Stand-alone System Grid-connected System Application absence of access to the public grid, e.g. remote locations it is directly connected with the public utility grid Storage uses solar batteries to store the DC electricity produced the grid acts like a battery with an unlimited storage capacity

 At the present the Cypriot Telecommunication Authority pays 55% of the total system cost. It also buys the extra electricity of your system for 12cetns/KWH.  I believe the public should be better informed about these solar systems as it is very important to use renewable and reliable energies as solar energy.
