Internet The internet is the largest computer network system in the world. It consists of many smaller networks connected together by a global public network.

Intranet An intranet is a private network that belongs to an organization, and is designed to be accessible only by the organization’s members, employees, or other with authorization.

Uniform resource locater (URL) Uniform resource locater (URL): is a unique address for a web page.

Example of an URL

Web page A web page is a document on the world wide web, consisting of HTML file and any related files for scripts and graphics and often hyperlinked to other web pages.

Web site A web site is a set of interconnected web pages, usually including a home page. It is generally located on the same server, and prepared and maintained as a collection of information.

Web browser Web browser is a program that is used to view web pages. Examples:  Microsoft internet explorer  Mozilla Firefox.  Google Chrome

Web Server A web server is a computer that dedicated to storing web sites (collection of web pages). When a request is made to access a web site, the request is sent to web server.

Electronic Mail ( ) Electronic Mail ( ) is mail that is sent and received electronically over a network.

Advantages of It is a fast way of sending and receiving mails It is cheaper to send than normal mail It is very easy to send files The same message can be quickly and easily sent to several people.

Disadvantages of It cannot be used to sent parcels You cannot send to people who do not have an account makes it very easy for computer viruses to be spread
