2 Network Applications Ask students to list some network applications. (Ex. Web Browser, application, Microsoft Office applications that are accessing a file on the cloud, etc A network application is a computer application in which either the program you are using, the data you are working with, or both, are on a network.

Web Browsers Web Browsers are network applications used to access the Internet. In fact, they are among the most popular network applications in the world. (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer) Each web page has a unique address, URL (Uniform Resource Locator) so that any computer can locate the information.

4 Think of URLs as street addresses for the Internet.

5 Browser Features

6 A browser usually has many different types of controls.
The back and forward buttons, a refresh button that allows you to reload the current page, a home button that returns you to a predefined page, a bookmark button that allows you to mark web pages for recall later, a settings button that allows you to access additional controls to customize your browser. Browsers allow you to open multiple webpages in other tabs. In most browsers, you can drag a tab off the browser window to create a completely new browser window.
