SNC 2D Chapter 2 Day 2

 Made up of muscle and connective tissues  Divided into skeletal system and muscular system

 Three types of connective tissue  Bones: Hard Dense structure made mostly of minerals and collegan ▪ Produce red and white blood cells  Ligament: Tough, elastic connective tissue that connects bones at joints made of collegan fibres  Cartilage: Dense connective tissue that provides strong flexible support for bones

 Three types of muscles  Skeletal  Smooth  Cardiac

 Skeletal Muscles  Connected to the bones  Allow the body to move  Under voluntary control  Striated (striped)

 Smooth Muscles  In digestive system, blood vessels, bladder, airways and, in a female, the uterus  Smooth muscle has the ability to stretch and maintain tension for long periods of time  Under involuntary control  Spindle shaped

 Cardiac Muscles  Only found in the walls of the heart  Under involuntary control  and its big features are endurance and consistency.  It can stretch in a limited way, like smooth muscle, and contract with the force of a skeletal muscle  Striated (striped)

Muscles are connected to bones by tendons.

Muscles always work in pairs

MUSCLES ONLY PULL! THEY CAN’T PUSH!

-Ligaments connect bones to bones -Tendons connect muscles to bones - Both are made of collagen fibres
