Group Assignment Possible Assignments 1 – Produce a media campaign Examples include: ◦A campaign for an organization ◦Personal campaign ◦Can be real or fictitious 2 – Analyze a media campaign Examples include: ◦CSU election campaigns ◦USA presidential election campaign ◦Canada’s election campaigns 3 – Perform a literature review about a media topic Examples include: ◦Internet regulation in Canada ◦The CBC ◦Anonymous ◦The media’s role in fostering a ‘culture of fear’

Group Project 1 – Pick a topic (today) ◦We will make about 10 – 12 groups of about 5 – 6 people based on the topic that interests you 2 – You will perform a literature review/research on your topic ◦Each member of the group will perform a literature search/research on the topic ◦Each member will write a list of articles that they found or bring the results of the research they conducted 3 – On March 9 th, the groups will discuss the research they conducted ◦The group will discuss the articles they read with other group members ◦The group will revise/refine the reading list ◦The group will pick about 10 – 20 sources for the final project ◦EACH PERSON WILL SUBMIT THEIR LITERATURE REVIEW - BIBLIOGRAPHY

Group Project 4 – A preliminary report will be due on March 16 th ◦The purpose of this is for me to assess your final project before you submit the final copy 5 – Groups will divide into two subsections – Presentation or Paper ◦Group members in charge of the presentation will prepare a 10 minute presentation on the topic ◦Group members in charge of the final paper will be in charge of the final paper ◦Everyone is in charge of editing the other subgroup’s material 6 – Presentation/submit final paper – April 6 th ◦Presentations will be given on April 6 th ◦Final paper will be also due on April 6 th ◦Submit group notes/minutes of meetings

Grade Breakdown Group Project = 20 % Preliminary assessment = 2 Final Paper= 13 Presentation = 5 Failure to submit literature review = -2 All members of each group must submit the results of their literature review on March 9 th Failure to submit the literature review will result in a deduction of 2 points off the individual’s group project grade

Paper Due April 6 th The paper should: ◦Contain the names of all group members ◦Be between 10 and 15 pages (body text) ◦H ave 10 – 20 sources ◦Flow well ◦Not contain grammatical errors ◦Go into depth about a topic ◦Be well structured ◦Thesis statement(s) ◦Support for your thesis statement(s) ◦Evidence ◦Address any counter evidence

Presentation Presentation Date = April 6 th The presentation notes should: ◦Contain the names of all group members ◦Reflect the information in your paper ◦Contain power point slides (or other presentation notes) ◦Provide a general summary of your topic (abstract) ◦Provide 3 – 5 key terms regarding your topic

Pick a topic and form groups One person should be in charge of taking notes in each of the group meetings Exchange addresses and circulate the meeting notes Submit a list of your group members and a topic your group wants to focus on
