Presentation transcript:

GABON: WG capD proposes AGEOS to link their AFriSAR workshop to a SAR training organised by CapD, co-hosted with them prior/after on in parallel to their workshop (ideally taking advantage of the presence of their AfriSAR experts). Funding requirements estimated by SANSA estimated for organizing a training workshop in Africa (excluding paying & sending the trainers and venue/computer costs) amount to about US dollars, for 10 funded participants over 5 days (transport, accommodation, per-diem for participants). We assume that AGEOS would offer the venue facilities. Present funding presently identified : 10,000 Euros from ESA Copernicus for participants 2,500 US dollars from UNOOSA In case a larger venue (with more computers, up to 25) can be made available by AGEOS, the course could accept a max of 15 additional participants (with own funding) We might leverage AfriSAR funding for part of the participants, in case they would participate to both events (AfriSAR and CapD training). We might also leverage some ESA/NASA/DLR trainers for both events Preferred Language: French SANSA will coordinate, together with the local host

Additional info about GABON: Independently from AfriSAR, ESA can send one SAR lecturer, hopefully French-speaking. Other agencies (DLR, NASA, ISRO, JAXA, CSA) are invited to do the same The ESA PoC for AfriSAR could be M. Davidson & Tania Casal (cc F. Sarti, Thuy Le Toan) DLR PoC for AfriSAR could be I. Hajnsek (cc M.Bock) NASA PoC for AfriSAR could be Craig Dobson (cc Nancy Searby) Craig Dobson (NASA): many agencies participate in AfriSAR and agreed with AGEOS in Gabon to provide training/workshops there. NASA will provide a workshop on radar and Lidar incorporating AfriSAR data, not earlier than 6 months after completion of the campaign (full processing of all the Lidar data – Autumn 2016 ). Other similar desires by ESA, CNES, and DLR. Important to directly engage AGEOS early Possible lecturers: experts from AfriSAR Workshop, C. Schmullius, JP Rudant (ESA PI French speaking – with already available videos in French about SAT theory and practice – CNES might have additional material) SAR Applications in Gabon: forestry, biomass, vegetation, natural disasters

ZAMBIA: WG capD proposes Zambia National RS Center to host the SAR training organised by CapD, in a TBC date in 2017 (before 31 March) Funding requirements estimated by SANSA estimated for organizing a training workshop in Africa (excluding paying & sending the trainers and venue/computer costs) amount to about US dollars, for 10 funded participants over 5 days (transport, accommodation, per-diem for participants). The Zambia National RS Center has already proposed to offer the venue facilities (for the 10 sponsored participants) - at least this was the case for the June 2016 option. In case a larger venue (with more computers, up to 25) can be made available by the RS center, the course could accept a max of 15 additional (non-funded) participants Present funding identified: 10,000 Euros from ESA Copernicus for participants 2,500 US dollars from UNOOSA 2,000 US from SANSA Language: English SANSA will coordinate, together with the local host

Additional info about ZAMBIA: AS for Gabon, ESA can send a lecturer, still to be identified. Other agencies (DLR, NASA, ISRO, JAXA, CSA) are invited to do the same Applications / needs: forestry, disasters (floods, oil spills, earthquakes), mining, ship detection
