“LIVING TO DIE IN CHRIST… AND FOR CHRIST” HEBREWS 11 & 12

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 1.They All Lived and Died by Faith (vv 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, times!)

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 2.They All Lived and Died Looking for Heaven (vv 13-16)

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” Heb. 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 14 For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 15 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 16 But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 3.They All Died with an Unwavering Commitment to God (vv 32-34)

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 32 And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets:

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 4.They All Suffered and/or Died for God(vv 35-38)

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 35 Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 36 Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 38 of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” Our Response? We Owe Jesus Our Lives and Everything Else… But We Also Have an Obligation to Our Dead Christian Heroes (12:1-2)

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” Heb. 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

“Living to Die in Christ… and For Christ” 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
