3IAT 106: Revolve and Sweep Week AMT Process Flow (Repeat of Lecture 9 Slide) 8 Prelab8: Form teams. Develop 2 preliminary ideas for an AMT: figure + mechanism; Lab 8: feedback on AMT ideas. Result: needed fixes/improvements for each team. HW: do COMPLETE set of drawings (figure, assembly, mechanism); This set of sketches is called “SK-1”. First DRAFT version due: start Lab 9 9 No formal lab: Remembrance Day Work on your own; get extra help from TAs via extended office hours. Prelab9: make sure Draft version of SK-1 is complete Lab9:1. Meet TA: review DRAFT SK1; 2. dimensioned multiview sketches of all parts; 3. SolidWorks models of each part; start working on assembly of SolidWorks model. HW: a) Complete final version of SK1: due start Lab10;. b) Complete dimensioned sketches and SolidWorks models of all AMT parts: due end Lab10 10Prelab10: make sure SK-1 & part sketches are complete & ready to hand in before Lab; Lab10: SK1 due. Finish SW parts; work on SW assembly. Ideally finish SolidWorks model. Initial discussion of Physical Model (e.g. who does what, materials). HW: submit final complete SolidWorks model by start of Lab11; 11Prelab11: Complete SolidWorks assembly of AMT; work on Physical model Lab11: Submit complete SolidWorks model; work on Physical model. HW: Finish Physical model, it is due at start of Lab 12 for DEMO. 12Prelab12: Complete Physical model; Lab12: Demo Physical model ; work on Video & Report (both due at start of Lecture 13). HW: Complete video and report, and submit by start of Week 13.

4IAT 106: Revolve and Sweep What’s a complete set of sketches? Complete enough so someone else could build it! Separate sets of sketches for –Entire assembly –Figure –Box and mechanism For each set: At least 1 pictorial (iso, cut-away iso, Xsection) –Annotate to show/explain motion, connections, joints Add orthographic and/or Multiviews (Front/top/right) as needed Make a copy to work from and submit Originals Make sure to staple all sketches together

5IAT 106: Revolve and Sweep Notes on sketch requirements The approach is deliberately iterative: Start: pSK –-feedback --> SK1_draft –-fb--> SK1_final You need to do a multiview (T/F/R) for each part. Do enough sketches to fully communicate your design … but NO MORE than that. Do the MINIMUM needed to fully communicate … You will be pressed for time in Lab10: come in fully prepared, with SK1 completely finished.

Sweeping a circle along a circular path appears to give the same result as a revolve feature. However, the revolve feature: –Is mathematically less complex –Is easier to sketch – one sketch vs. two Revolve Sweep
