PRESENTATION SKILLS

Parts of presentation All types of presentations consist of three basic parts: The introduction (10 – 15% of your speaking time) The body (75% of your speaking time) The conclusion (10% of your speaking time)

The Introduction The introduction is the most important part of your presentation. The best introductions are those that are creative and original. The introduction needs to be brief, so that there is enough time for the main part of the presentation.

Parts of the introduction Welcome your audience. Introduce your subject Outline the structure of your presentation. The introduction should: Be carefully designed and natural Get attention – shock, use humour Motivate the audience to listen

The Body It is the main part of your presentation. It explains your topic and gives all the information to be presented. The organization of the body is very importatnt.

In the main part you should Use visual aids – charts, tables, graphs Organise your points in a logical order and then give information to support each point. Start from the general to the specific. Use appropriate and understandable information Use interim summaries – recaps.

The Conclusion Use the conclusion to: Sum up Thank your audience Invite questions. The conclusion is critical. It should be short and concise. You should not introduce new information. Always try to leave the audience with a good impression.

Questions Questions are good opportunity for you to interact with your audience. You may prefer questions at any time during your presentation or to keep a time for questions after the presentation. The time for questions should be made clear during the introduction.

Task Prepare the structure and the main parts of a presentation about our school. Include the following points – the location, the teachers, the pupils, the subject taught, free time activities, project at our school.
