1 Self Learning Project English Presentation 10 % of your English grade!

2 The English Presentation You will deliver a presentation in English: –Delivered to an English teacher (not your own) who gives you a grade. –Delivered in Week 15. You will have a scheduled appointment for your delivery, on May 15th. –This will be 10% of your total grade in English It’s important!

3 Topic Topic can be the same as your self-learning project…… But, you can also choose a different topic! –Get the topic approved by your English teachers.

4 People and Length Deliveries can be 1, 2, or 3 people. Length of presentation must be: –3 people: 6 minutes –2 people: 5 minutes –1 person: 3 minutes –Practice timing: If your presentation is too long, you will get stopped before it’s finished. Number of slides: adequately support your topic.

5 Hand in a copy You will hand in a printed copy of your PPT. –Every student in the group must bring a printed copy of the PPT. –Every student in the group must bring the presentation on a USB stick. The teacher will grade: –1) The English on your printed copies –2) Your presentation

6 Presentation Checklist Plan the presentation in advance A good introduction and conclusion Use logical structure Provide clear, concise visuals Introduce yourself, and thank audience at the end Present clearly and use good body language Keep to the time limits (Listening Speaking book, p.81)

7 Criteria for assessing How is it graded? Intro & Finish(10%) –Effective introduction –Effective in answering audience questions Attitude & Body Language(10%) –Interested, dynamic, interactive –You may NOT use notes when you present!

8 Criteria for assessing Visual Aids + PowerPoint Language(10%) –No long sentences or paragraphs –No more than 5 bullet points –Maximum 10 words per bullet point –No spelling or grammar mistakes –Grammatically consistent

9 Criteria for assessing Visual Aids + PowerPoint Style(10%) –Matching font, size, color –Layout + text goes together, clear, effective –Graphics + animations informative and well placed. Effort and imagination. –Appropriate transitions between slides

10 Criteria for assessing Content(20%) –Clear, cohesive –Well planned, organized. Good structure and flow. –Relevant, fulfills tasks Language and Communication(40%) –Accurate –Appropriate –Competent

12 Tips for practicing Practice your presentation out loud: even 20 times! –Time it, using Powerpoint timer –Practice body language and look in the mirror –Practice pointing to slides Which kinds of questions might the audience ask? –Speculate, and practice your answers. As you practice, you will memorize what you need to say and be confident.
