ZONTA ZONTA District 11 Area Meetings A MEMBER OF ZONTA INTERNATIONAL ADVANCING THE STATUS OF WOMEN WORLDWIDE AND LOCALLY

Would you deny a woman or child a meal? An education? So why deny them a scholarship opportunity?

AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS Through District 11’s years of community service, we have provided numerous scholarships to local women through the Young Women in Public Affairs(YWPA) Award; our support of Zonta International’s Amelia Earhart Fellowships, the Jane M. Klauseman Women in Business Scholarships and Z & Golden Z Clubs.

Amelia Earhart Fellowships FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields. ELIGIBILITY Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences or aerospace- related engineering are eligible AE Fellow Puja Upadhyay from Nepal Program of Study: Mechanical Engineering at Florida State University

JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP ~ Simina Roata, Romania, JMK Scholarship Recipient, 2013 SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION Established in 1998 by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York USA, and the Zonta International Parliamentarian, this scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or master's degrees in business management. In 2011, women held only 16.1% of the board seats at Fortune 500 companies; therefore this program is designed to overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom. Since the program's inception, 441 Scholarships have been awarded to women from 50 countries. The program operates at the Zonta club, district/region and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients. Zonta International awards scholarships of US$1,000 each at the district/region level and 12 international scholarships in the amount of US$7,000 each.

Young Woman In Public Affairs Scholarships YWPA The YWPA scholarship will allow me to fulfill my dream of becoming a physician as I begin my academic journey as a student at Brown University and Brown Medical School through their Program of Liberal Medical Education." ~ Soumiri Barua, District 4, YWPA International Award Recipient, 2013 Laura Villavicencio was the 2006 YWPA Award Winner for the Zonta Club of Tampa

Young Women In Public Affairs Award Although women account for nearly 50 percent of the workforce, they hold on average just 22.3 percent of seats in the world's national parliaments as of 1 August 2015, according to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Zonta International believes young women are the key to women's advancement in the field of public service. The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Awards program recognizes young women for their demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. Since the program's inception, Zonta has given 763 awards (includes international awards) totaling US$693,750 to 661 young women from 53 countries.

Emma L. Conlon Service Awards Award Description Established in 1962 at the Zonta International Convention in New Orleans, Lousiana, USA, the Emma L. Conlon Service Award is a contest for Z clubs and Golden Z clubs. Named in honor of Past International President, Emma L. Conlon, who graciously underwrote the Award for Zonta International, the Emma L. Conlon Service Awards recognize those clubs whose projects and programs best express the ideals of Zonta International through local and international service and advocacy to advance the status of women worldwide. First place clubs receive US$1,000; second place clubs receive US$500; and third place clubs receive US$250. The award money is to be used for the club's service projects.
