PRESENTATION Presented by Shahanara Khandoker Instructor (English) Pabna Technical School & College, Pabna. Prepared for Class: Nine Sub: English Time: 50 Ms Date: 26/05/2015

Today we are going to learn a new grammar point. We have joined the training to be skilled in ICT. What do the underlined words indicate in Grammar & what does it mean? INFINITIVE

After this session, the students will be able to… * Learn the writing skill * Define the functions of infinitive * Make sentences using infinitive properly LEARNING OUT COMES

The infinitive is the base form of a verb. In English, when we talk about the infinitive we are usually referring to the present infinitive, which is the most common. The infinitive has two forms: * the to-infinitive = to + base (e.g. This is a chair to sit on. ) * the zero infinitive = base (e.g. I saw the boy do the work. ) Let’s start learning

ZERO INFINITIVE The following verbs omit the ‘to’ used before the base- Let, Make, See, Watch, Need, Dare, Hear. e.g. * Let him go. * You need not do the work. * How dare you say so?

FUNCTION:- The function of infinitives is to express purpose or opinion of an action.

Now notice the slide and make five sentences using the table. One has done for you. (a) They learnt a lot to pass their exams.

Evaluation (a) Let me to do the work. (b) Let me do the work. (c) Let me doing the work. 1.Which of the following sentences correctly represents Infinitive? 2. Make three sentences in the proper form of infinitive using the following verbs: Make, Throw, Run

Home Work (a) Write five sentences using zero infinitive. (b) F/B with infinitives (i) The children went to the field……. (ii) This is a house ….. live in. (iii) ……. is human. (iv) I saw the boy …… in the pond.

That will be all for today… Thank you
