Education Education is valued highly Education is not free, parents have to pay for teachings, uniforms and transportation. Higher education is not free, parents and families make sacrifices so students can continue their education Parents sometimes avoid sending their children to school due to the cost.

Etiquette/Greetings Punctuality is not important, “Trinidad time” refers to habitual lateness. Men harassing women on the streets is common, if the women replied they’d lose status. It is expected that when you enter a room you say, “Good Morning” “Good Afternoon” or “Good Night”.

Clothing and Appropriate Dress During Carnival women wear barely-there bikinis embellished with feathers and sequins as common attire. Costumes of animals, mythical creatures and insects are worn also.

National Holidays Phagwah/Holi (Hindu Spring Festival) (usually in March) Easter Monday Labour Day (19 June) Boxing Day (26 December). Carnival is the biggest celebration.

Transportation Buses are used for transportation and are often pick-up trucks with benches or minivans. They are often crowed and unreliable. Water travel by ferry is available- it runs through port of Spain and Tobago. Not everyone owns a car, and wearing a seatbelt is a strict rule. No subway stations.

Immunization Requirements Yellow fever immunization is required for travelers who are at least 9 months. It is recommended to get immunized for Hepatitis A&B, Typhoid, and Rabies.
