PLAY IS FOR FUN, By Luke Dehmel COLLEGE IS FOR EDUCATION THE CONTROVERSEY THE CAUSE FOR COLLEGE PAID WITH EDUCATION LEARN MORE ! Every year college kids are questioned if they are employees, really they are just students learning for later in life. Kids and employees are not the same thing. Know what is right!

THE CONTROVERSEY  After Heisman winner, Texas A-M Aggie, Johny Manziel was investigated as to whether he was receiving money for autographs, and then got released from trouble, news company's including Times Magazine and Sports Illustrated started a debate. They claimed that Division-1 college athletes should be paid, as if they are employees. football coach at the University of Louisville (a Division 1 College). Your team has an athletic and powerful offense and defense lead by coaches that YOU hired. In the BCS National Championship, the final whistle blows and your Cardinals have came out on top. The money (about 18 million dollars) is doled out to all the players. And when it is your turn to receive your earnings there is barely any money for YOU, the one who lead this team to the championship. And this is ACTUALLY your JOB. You are the head OK, This would not happen because college athletes do not get paid. BUT… NCAA president, Mark Emmert expressed that this is no do different than passed years. “This is nothing new. this tension has been going on forever and it has gotten greater now because the magnitude of dollars has gotten much larger.” So why should this even be such a complicated debate? Why should the NCAA look so far into this, when they would of just of said no in past years? Why should it change? Mark Emmert Sporty Words Investigated- looked into Debate- a discussion, or public decision Magnitude- size or amount

THE CAUSE FOR COLLEGE Nowadays going to college for an activity (a sport) is more common. But it shouldn't be. College is for learning, and training for a job. Paying college athletes will lower the number of students that go to a college that excels at education, but lacks at sports, because more than half of kids in America play sports. In many parts of the world, getting an education is illegal for some, and not even an option. But our country pushed to the extreme for our rights, and kids that don’t take advantage of our good fortune let thiscountry down. Over the years these debates have narrowed down to just paying the major conferences, including the SEC, ACC, PAC 12, Big 10, and many more. Doing this, however, will just persuade those 60% of Americankids that play sports to choose to go to a major conference school. If kids want to skip college and go straightto a professional league, they should do it. It’s legal! Mark Emmert, on pretending to be a college teacher quoted, “if you’re going to come to us, you’re going to be a student.“ Meaning that college is for learning, or, when you’re at college, you’re a student. Founder of the national college players association, Ramogi Huma believes that college athletes should get paid. His reason is simply “a fair days pay for a fair days work.” However, college is for learning andpracticing for a job. So, at college you are practicing to be good at your job, so one day you can get paid. Plusmost Division-1 athletes are practicing to one day be in the NFL, NBA, or MLB, where they will get paid a lot ofmoney. So why pay college athletes when they are going to end up making about 15 million dollars later in life.In addition, if college athletes were paid, the coaches would not get a fair share. Sporty Words Illegal - not allowed, against the law Debates- discussions Persuade- convince Legal- allowed, permitted by law This picture shows the average amount of money professional athletes by their sport make in their career

Scholarships. Over the years Math, History, English, and Science, have greatly improved. Going along with Richard Burton, who says “college athletes are already paid with their education”, college athletes are already paid with education. So they do not need to be be paid with money for sports. Also, sports are very mental games, so education is good practice for sports. 25,000 dollars per year. That’s 100,000 dollars for four years to ‘freely’ pay for food, tuitions, text books, desks, and many more essential supplies. But most importantly scholarships or just college gives you an education. Paid With Education. Stud running back at the University of Mississippi State, Josh Robinson, a 5-9, 210 pound Louisiana native has had a roller coaster life. Barely even knowing his parents, who passed away when Josh was was young, Josh was on his own. His mentor was Gwendolyn Robinson Brown, his loving grandma, but most importantly his biggest fan. In May of 2004 Josh’s heart sank on the way down a steep drop in his life. Gwendolyn had died of a heart attack. Now Josh was almost bankrupt. With the most hopeful attitude of a kid with a hopeless heart, Josh wandered his neighborhood searching for a place to stay the night. In high school, sometimes Josh’s best sleeping spot was a seat in the back of his car! In 2011, after extremely hard work at school, Josh enrolled at Mississippi State University with a scholarship, his only way to pay for college. Now he is one of the best college running backs in the country! This is just one of many stories about a very talented athlete who does not have the greatest background, and how a scholarship picks them up and saves them. So if colleges in some way want to pay their athletes, they should just give out more scholarships. And if you think college is for athletics and not for getting an education you are just WRONG. PLAY IS FOR FUN, COLLEGE IS FOR EDUCATION Sporty Words Essential- something that is very important to have. Mental- having to do with your mind. Attitude- somebody's manner/feeling. Enrolled- to register and agree to go.
