The Aegean shoreline is a transverse shoreline and is highly indented because the mountains in the region lie steep to the shore. There are many gulfs, bays, penisulas and capes on the shoreline. The gulfs of Saros, Edremit, Çandarlı, izmir, Güllük, Gökova and Fethiye are the main gulfs. The penisulas of Reþadiye, Bozburun, Dilek and Ýzmir - Karaburun are the main penisulas.
