Aims To promote the health of the whole school community through social, emotional, moral and spiritual development. As a Rights Respecting School, to ensure all pupils are aware of their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to encourage the mutual respect of everyone’s rights. Attainment and Achievement Across the school the development work undertaken in mental maths is having a positive impact on children’s motivation, enjoyment and skills. Children show an increased awareness of number patterns and their recall of basic number facts, including multiplication tables, is at a much faster pace. Children continue to benefit from an active approach to learning maths through real life and relevant contexts. Most children in P4 and the majority in P7 demonstrate that they are secure in their learning at first and second levels respectively. Listening and talking is well developed across the school with most children overall demonstrating that they can confidently use a wide variety of skills in a range of contexts from individual talks to presenting and performing to a large audience. Across the school children have opportunities to read a wide range of texts and are confident in discussing and identifying key features in their reading. Attainment figures show that most children at P4 are secure at first level and the majority of children in P7 are secure at second level. This session we worked with our local cluster group of schools to moderate attainment in reading and next session we intend to develop this work further as part of our literacy review. At all stages children write regularly for a variety of meaningful and relevant purposes. We have implemented our revised English language framework and this has ensured a clear progression of skills across and between stages. It is pleasing to note that most children in P1 and P4 are secure in their writing at early and first levels and the majority of P7 are secure at second level. A few children across the school are demonstrating that they are working at a level beyond their age and stage. This year we have tracked individual achievements and used the results to plan for specific lunch time clubs and Skills Hour activities. We have updated our individual achievement books to include a summary of our termly learning conversations. Children, particularly in the upper stages, are demonstrating that they understand their key strengths in learning and know what they need to do in order to improve and develop their learning further. Children continue to develop confidence and take responsibility through serving on committees and taking on active roles in the life of the school. Leadership The senior management team continued to work effectively as a team. Learning and teaching continued to be monitored in all classes to ensure appropriate pace and challenge for all pupils and to identify strengths and development needs. One of our Depute Heads was successful at interview for a Head Teacher post and therefore next session we will begin the process of recruiting her replacement and building up relationships within the new management team. Our tracking mechanism enabled the management team to have a clear picture of attainment and achievement across the school and individual pupil attainment was discussed with class teachers at scheduled points during the session. All staff were involved in identifying priorities for development and these helped to form the improvement plan for next session. The school made very good progress in overtaking the developments set out in the improvement plan for session 2014 –15. Staff meetings and in service days provided time for collegiate activities to undertake important developments in maths and reading. All teaching staff were able to participate in a working group. As a result the school is able to benefit from teachers’ individual talents and strengths. Teacher Learning Communities in the cluster schools enabled staff to engage in professional dialogue and enhanced teaching for effective learning. Most staff participated in the Employee Review and Development Programme enabling then to reflect and plan for their own professional development.

Almost all children from P4-7 are involved in an excellent musical production of Let Loose All pupils in P1 to P7 helped to plan and organise exhibitions showcasing their learning in art and inter disciplinary learning We have appreciated the support of HOST (Parent Council) and continue to strive towards close working relationships between the school and parents. Parents supported us in a variety of ways including cycling proficiency training, helping within the classes and helping at fundraising events. We were successful in our bid for Lottery funding and we now look forward to having our new playground equipment installed in the summer Throughout the session our pupils participated in a wide range of events within Perth and Kinross and further afield, achieving success for themselves and also contributing to and gaining experience of the wider community. Learning We have continued to take very positive steps in developing the curriculum. We have developed our whole school planning under the 4 key aspects of learning and this has ensured that learning beyond the classroom is more focused We have a clear overview of the experiences and outcomes being covered in all areas of the curriculum at every class stage ensuring that we have breadth and balance across the totality of the curriculum. This session, in particular, we have reviewed our programmes in English language, maths and health and well being. We are confident that we have clear progressive frameworks in each of these curriculum areas ensuring that the children are able to build on their previous learning..We have reviewed our inter disciplinary learning and we are confident that, across the school, we now have appropriate coverage of the experiences and outcomes in social studies, ensuring that the children have opportunities to develop skills and knowledge and understanding within contexts which are motivating and relevant. There has been a positive impact in the way that the children can discuss the real life connections in their learning. We have continued to moderate writing across the school and within our local management group. As a result, all our teachers are skilled in reporting levels of attainment and have a clear understanding of the work required at each level This session the local management group of schools have worked on developing reading strategies and we have continued to moderate reading across the school and local management group, We intend to continue this work next session as part of our literacy review. In particular, we will pay particular attention to the quality and challenge of tasks and activities. During session our Rights Respecting Schools programme focused on the development and implementation of classroom charters which encouraged the children to take responsibility for their own actions. Throughout the session children were provided with opportunities to learn about rights within a national and global context. We are now ready to be assessed for our level1 accreditation The nursery class and P1 worked closely together ensuring that transition was effective and seamless. This session we have welcomed secondary colleagues from the maths and English language department to observe one of our P7 lessons. We intend to build on this peer observation next session. In addition a motivating health and well being project involving several classes is planned which will support closer curricular links.
